i cannot do the gate puzzle successfully because i cannot get the things to slide at all. i have done everything on Heimdall's list. and i have clean booted and reinstalled. still won't work. i have the latest patches.

i was taking a break from uru ages beyond because it had a glitch that i could not fix. (the jump from the moving walkway) and i thought i would play another Myst game. but rev 4 has a glitch i cannot get beyond as well.

Because the Myst 4 graphics are far from being as good as people think, the handle of those three slider are very hard to see.

As a precaution here is an additionnak info.

On my image, topmost slider, there is a lock in the second hole from the right. Did you first move that lock from the top slider down to the middle slider to be able to move the middle slider ?

both locks can be moved, but the sliders won't budge.

The top slider won't budge after you've moved the lock to the middle slider?

Are you positioning the cursor over a slider then holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse to move the slider (while holding down the mouse button)?

i just went back to the gate puzzle and spent a few minutes trying to grab and move the slider after successfully move the the lock. i tried other sliders too. i grab the handles every way i could and they would not slide.

yes i got CC. the first time i tried to make that jump i succeeded but missed the second jump to the other ramp. after that CC had the same glitch as beyond ages, so i have not been able to play through the whole game.

this evening i downloaded the latest driver for nvidia 8800 GT but this did not fix either game.

by the way, in Haven i cannot get the Quetzy off the wheel. i figure that this is because i have not been able to get to the Quetzy in Haven and do it first.

you guys are wonderful with your patience and expert advice. i think i might just be cursed!

IMHO the hardest thing about that puzzle is realizing what end result is needed. I thought for the longest time that all three sliders had to be at one end or the other, and of course that is impossible. I was shocked when I read the walkthrough and found out that what needed to be done was quite different.

Incidentally, a slider will NOT move if the hammer is not in the slider.

I just checked the Bert Jamin walkthrough and here are the first moves.

Latch = hammer

i have also solved the jumping problem on CC. if i uninstall and clean boot this allows me to make the jump. of course i fell for the link that took me to the balcony, traing suit and all, so i have to uninstall/clean boot again to get back there but i don't even care because i am so over joyed to find a fix for the problem.

now if i can just solve the long monkey puzzle!

working on the infamous monkey puzzle. so far i have gotten the monkey to throw the fruit when the monster was NOT in the pit. am i supposed to do the last part really fast when the monster is struggling not to fall in?
