I have a 20? iMac G5 iSight, OS 10.4.8. There are 2 patches for Myst IV, 1.0.1 and 1.0.3, but where are the installation instructions? When I open either patch, it looks like it wants to install the game, not the patch. Ray :-)

I haven't gotten very far in the game yet, so don't know about the other problems. Thanks, JacaByte, for the heads up.

So does no-one have an actual answer for what to do with the mac patch? Apparently it also helps with crashes and I get crashes!

UBISOFT have been ZERO help with this, totally useless, and I feel pretty frustrated.

The patch file decompresses to millions of files and folders but no explanation anywhere.

Axisus,you must be having similar results with the patches that I am, none!!! Ray :-)

The patches both download as .jar self-executing archives - myst4_v1.00_to_v1.01_us_mac.jar and myst4_v1.00_to_v1.03_mac.jar. ("jar" stands for Java Archive.) If you have Java properly installed, double-clicking on either file should cause it to launch automatically in installation mode. You'll then see (in this order):
-- A select-your-language menu page
-- A Myst IV Revelation splash screen, followed automatically by
-- The install directory location page - "Click Next to install "Myst IV - Revelation" to this directory, or click Browse to install to a different directory." Your Revelation install directory must be showing in the Directory Name: box.
-- Etc.

This may look like the patches want to install the entire game, but that's not exactly the case. Just make certain that the Revelation install directory path in the box is correct, and follow the Install Wizard's prompts from there.

If the patch file doesn't automatically launch in install mode, open a Terminal window. Type java -jar, then a space. Drag the patch .jar file into the window, and hit return. Or, try the Java Applet Launcher or Java Web Start (Applications > Utilites > Java).

If that gives you error messages:
-- Delete the patch file(s) you downloaded, and then re-download the file(s) from here.
-- Update/re-install Java from here or here.

Thanks a lot for the info about the mac patch! Now I know what is 'supposed' to happen I can look into it - your info is very detailed. They should have that in a troubleshooting text file with the patch.
