I've E-mailed Ubisoft support and have been told that MYST IV will not play on Tiger. The response had been: "This game is not supported for use with Tiger. Apple is aware of the problem, and should be working on an OS update to correct it. 10.4.1 does not resolve the problem. Unfortunately, we don't have much information about this since the problem is entirerly with the operating system and not with the game. The game simply does not start with either of the releases above 10.4. It worked using 10.3.8 and stopped after 10.4.0, so the problem cannot be the game." Ubisoft support also said to go to these forums...and it appears from some of the postings that the game does play in Tiger. Queries to Apple Forums have resulted in some finger pointing...it's not an OS problem, but in the game. Does anyone in the Forums have a definite answer?

Similar problem.
The game runs on my brand new iMac G5 (10.4.1), but slowly. I've seen it run much more smoothly on my wife's iBook (10.3.8). It has given me some problems with hangs that are so bad that I need to Force Quit in order to stop it. I came to the forum to find out what was going on. I'm surprised to find it is a Tiger issue. |

And Revelation isn't alone. If you Google "Tiger problems", you'll get something like 1,700 hits, and about 1,300 with "problems with Tiger"!

I have Tiger 10.4.1 and Myst IV 1.03. Everything runs perfectly fine - no problems at all so far.

Ditto here. Though I suppose I should quantify that by saying that I loaded the game last week and played through up to Atrus' "hello" speech to make sure it was working. I haven't gone very far into the game on the G5. ---------- Guild of Archivists, D'niPedia Writers Ring (DPWR.NET) Uru and Myst Forum Moderator / Community Assistant Do not PM me for tech support or hint requests for the Myst series |

I just purchasing Myst IV and when I came home it didn't even want to install on my iBook running Tiger.
"WARNING: / partition has insufficient space to install the items selected. 233.8 MB additional space would be needed to install the selected items." I have several GBs left and I don't like it when my computer lies to me. At least I hope OS X 10.4.2 fixes something. |

Well, as a minimum, Revelation requires 2 GB of disc space... full install requires 6, if I remember correctly. If you have less than 2 or less than 6 and attempt those installations, you're probably getting thrown an error because it's not finding enough free space.

FYI,
Just loaded MystIV v1.0.3 on a new 2GHz,2Gb, ATI9650, OS10.4.1 and it seems to run fine. A few little video glitches perhaps, but nothing to worry about. Good Luck Myst IV 1.0.3 2GHz G5, 2Gb, OS10.4.1, ATI9650 |

I just got my new PowerMac G5 2Ghz Dual-Core and wanted to play some GOOD games...
Myst starts, but when I hit "New game" it crashes and just quits. C'mon!!! On the game box there's a information: "OSX 10.2, 10.3" BUT ONLY on the Ubi website we can find more: "OSX 10.2, 10.3 (only)" Very small defference but really stupid. If I had a chance to read it I wouldn't buy that game! |

I've read forums where people had similar problems and I noticed that for example that if you installed Mac 10.4 or 10.4.1 directly onto the computer that Myst 4 would work almost flawlessly. If you upgraded from say Mac 10.3.2 than Myst 4 wouldn't work.

If you haven't already done so, a good page to visit is Apple's Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Support - Answers, tips, discussions, downloads and more.
From that page, you can navigate to (for example) Apple Discussions, Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger If you search there for game run, you'll find (again for example) Some apps won't run for user, Why do some apps not run for users other than the administrator?, in which permission issues are discussed. Or, search for game will not run, and you'll find can anyone help?, in which uninstalling, reinstalling, and permissions are discussed. Etc., etc., etc. There are also: -- Apple Discussions, Using Mac OS X Tiger -- Apple Discussions, Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - Tiger -- Apple Discussions, Myst IV Using Mac OS X Tiger Heimdall This message has been edited. Let's hope that 10.4.3 update will resolve the problem...

Well, 10.4.3 is out and I can't get the game to launch on my new PoweBook G4 Dual Layer. The screen rez changes, then the game just quits. No dialog or errors or anything. Any ideas here? This is kinda ridiculous, this game isn't that old!
Thanks |

Myst played fine with Tiger 10.4.2 but the update to 10.4.3 breaks the game. Ubisoft says the problem is with Apple. The splash screen plays and then it goes to blue screen and the game quits. Since it will be sometime before Apple issues 10.4.4 unless Ubisoft comes up with a patch we are out of commission for quite sometime.

I have a new dual core Mac running 10.4.3 and Myst IV doesn't work. My children are so disappointed since we waited so long to buy a computer that could run the software's requirements. Now more waiting and now researching. I'm angry.

Curious. I'm running 10.4.3 on a dual 2.3GHz G5 and the game runs just fine for me. I just tested it to make sure.
Make sure that you've downloaded and installed the 1.03 patch from UbiSoft's support site if you haven't already, as that may fix the issue. I should also note that I've downloaded the latest Mac driver for my ATi Radeon 9600 and installed it, so that may also be helping my situation. I'm not sure where nVIDIA users should go to look for updated GeForce drivers, as nVIDIA's website doesn't list OS X as an option for driver downloads, but ATi offers drivers here. Those with ATi cards may want to give that a shot. ---------- Guild of Archivists, D'niPedia Writers Ring (DPWR.NET) Uru and Myst Forum Moderator / Community Assistant Do not PM me for tech support or hint requests for the Myst series |
