Several threads meander around the solution. Updated and in brief: unless your pointing device's sensor is dirty or dusty (hair, lint, detritus, etc), the most likely cause is a hyper-threading/multi-core issue which Ubisoft has left unresolved, unaddressed and unacknowledged for years now.

If you sell it, support it.

Anyway. To resolve this issue.

  • On a multi-core Vista system change the short-cut for Myst Revelation to:

    Target*: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 myst4.exe
    Start in**,***: "C:\Program Files\UBISOFT\Myst IV - Revelation\bin"

    * without quotation marks ("), ** WITH quotation marks, *** Location may differ on your machine. Check.

This adjustment will force Myst4 to run on a single core. This will resolve the issue.

  • If you're having this problem but you're NOT on a multi-core Vista system the issue is most likely hyper-threading. You'll have to check in your BIOS. Disabling hyper-threading seems to resolve this issue.

BE WARNED: disabling hyper-threading may make your system unstable, causing it to hang at start-up, among other things. Read up on risks online.

In short, having same problem with mouse, however the afore mentioned shortcut modification fix did not work.

To fix on my system I simply started the game, pressed ctrl+alt+del, started task manager, went to processes tab and found myst4.exe, right clicked on it and selected the Affinity option. I then set the process to use the last CPU listed which for me was CPU3.

My system is an Intel Core 2 Quad running on Windows Vista with directX 10.

Perhaps the afore mentioned shortcut fix will work if it is modified to be the last CPU on a given system..?
