I have tried to start Spire a few times and each time I would start going down the stairs and when I got to the point where it looks like there is something besides more stairs at the next landing I move forward and get an exception error about textures. What is the fix for this? I have already upgraded my graphics adapter, ATI and Nvidia should be paying UBI and Cyan royalties for all the adapters I bet this game has forced people to buy. When I first started the game and entered the study all I would see is a big vista of sky and clouds like looking through a picture window. After driver updates and Dirext X 9 updates I got past that with my original garphics card but any movement was painful until the card caught up and put the resultant screen together. Now the only place I notice the "big sky through the window" effect is entering or exiting Atrus and Catherines bedroom.
Thanks for any help, Jon |

Suggestions:
1. Download and correctly install the proper driver for your video card, as detailed in Myst IV: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP. 2. Do step 2 in Myst IV: Miscellaneous Fixes for Video Problems. 3. If that doesn't help, re-install Revelation from a clean boot as detailed in Myst IV: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. If none of the above help, post a DxDiag report in this thread so that we can take a look at your system and maybe make recommendations. See [Posting Guidelines] Help! I'm Having Technical Problems and I Don't Know Why!?! under To post a DxDiag report for a how-to. Run all of the tests you can on the Display, Sound and Music tabs before saving the report to a file, and post *ALL* of the contents of the file. If the manufacturer and exact model number of your PC aren't shown under 'System Information', System Manufacturer and System Model at the top of the report, also include that information in your post. Thanks I will check my driver and see if it is in need of updating. I just read throught the updating procedure for ATI. Oh boy more fun when I get home. I have been amazed reading some of the other posts and seeing the power these PC's have and are still having issues. I have been lucky myself through the first 3 Myst games not running into the issues a lot of people mentioned in them. I am thinking I will have to build a new PC to get past IV for sure. Been thinking it was time anyway haha.
Thanks, Jon |

The problem may be more than just your video driver, so don't ignore suggestions 2 and 3, above.

Hi Heimdall,
It seems the clean boot re-install did the trick. I did gain from updating the video driver even though the card is new, older version on the disk that shipped with it. I wasn't able to do anything with the audio, on board Intel 82801 using AC97. Once I re-installed from a clean boot it worked. I got past the spot on the stairs and can keep going. Thanks very much. Take a look at Intel's Chipset Audio Driver Information. (The words in pale blue are clickable links to the appropriate pages.)
