I've played Myst V--loved it--but hesitate to buy Myst IV as I'm running OS X 10.4.5
I'm not too savvy on the technical side. [and my hair really is gray.] My question is, are there any games out there which are similar to Myst and which are supported by 10.4.5? I'd be grateful for some advice from a fellow Mac/Myst traveler. |

If you could post your Mac's information (namely, what kind of Mac you have, and what video card you're using), perhaps someone could come along and speak from experience whether the game will run on that system. I'm running a PowerMac G5 with 10.4.6 and haven't had any problems with the game, personally (though the last time I tested it was on 10.4.5... need to re-check for the latest update).

[Hoping someone can steer me through the Myst IV technical maze]--I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.5 on a PowerBook G4 [1.1] 1.5 GHz, memory 512 DDR, chipset model ATY,RV360M11, total VRAM64MB. If the video card info isn't listed above it's because I can't find it, but I played Myst V happily--tho some of the slates drove me nuts-- so I obviously have some card in there that works. I haven't bought IV because I've read so much about excruciating incompatibilities, altho I would love to. I'm almost 70;you're never too old to enjoy a great experience like Myst. If someone has a solution for loading IV I would be delighted, keeping in mind, however, the wise words of Mick Jagger--You Can't always Get What You Want. Thanks

Thanks Heimdall G. Just upgraded to OS X 10.4.6...is there anywhere on the forums where I could look for info on whether I can load Myst IV, and does anybody know whether there are versions of RealMyst, Myst II and Myst III that are compatible with my OS system?

Try downloading and playing the Myst IV demo for Mac, available here.
This will tell you if your machine can NOT run Myst IV, but note that it may not prove that your machine CAN run Myst IV. Thanks Heimdall--the demo loads, but crashes whenever I try to do something other than go forward. This may be because I'm not familiar with Myst IV and don't have the Prima bible. However I do have the game which I plan to load, and then get the patch[es?]--even if it's a bust, I will have learned a bit more about patch/fixes. Playing Myst is good for the brain--glad we geezers are still exploring.
