I've run into a few instances where the
hey guys...

i noticed my graphics don't render properly, and I'm wondering if its a bug or a tech issue. Here are the three specific instances:

1) Tohmana, the closeup of the note on the bedstand
2) Tohmana, the closeup of the note in the center cupboard of Atrus' desk.
3) looking at Yeesha's bookcase, under the books are two glass fronted cupboards. the one on the right shows a beautiful closeup of a black screen with 4 blue lines on it. Just lovely.

can someone help? i got all the latest drivers and game updates. still nothing.
could someone maybe post screen shots of those 3 areas?

Do you have a video chipset supported by Revelation? The System Requirements on the Revelation slipcase and the Ubisoft Store's Revelation website list the ONLY video chipsets supported by Revelation:
-- ATI Radeon 7000 to 9800 or better
-- NVIDIA GeForce 1/2/3/4/FX families
-- Matrox Parhelia (PC only)
-- Intel i865G to i915G (PC only)

Note that notebook versions of these chipsets are not fully supported!

If you don't know which video chipset you have, run DxDiag and save the results in a DxDiag.txt file. Then, look in that file under 'Display Devices - Card name:'. (See [Posting Guidelines] Help! I'm Having Technical Problems and I Don't Know Why!?! under To post a DxDiag report for a how-to)

If you do have a supported chipset, have you downloaded and installed the latest video driver? This is a requirement for Revelation.

Hi, I am having the same problems as LunatiClown. I get a nice picture of the sky for the closeups at Atrus's bedroom table and inside the writing desk upper compartment. Can you help me fix this?

I am not a computer guru but it seems you could use a updated version of your Nvidia card. Go to the Nvidia site and download the latest drivers. Read the information about installing drivers. Maybe Heimdall could give you more help if needed.

You have a video chipset integrated on the motherboard. This is a difficult situation for Revelation, since integrated chipsets aren't usually intended for gaming.

Suggestions, to do in the order shown:

Steps 1 through 6 aren't strictly required, but they amount to a system tune-up. Which is a really good thing to do!

1. Use your anti-virus software to do a complete scan of your C: and D: drives. This is the 'start it and let it crank' type of scan, not the bootup quickie!

Then, do complete spyware and adware scans of your C: and D: drives. I regularly use, and recommend:
-- Spybot - Search & Destroy
-- Ad-aware SE Personal Edition

Both have free versions!

2. Clear your Internet Explorer caches:
-- a. Close all open applications.
-- b. Open a single Internet Explorer session.
-- c. Click on Tools > Internet Options.
-- d. Click on Delete Cookies > OK.
-- e. Click on Delete Files (check the 'Delete all offline content' box) > OK.
-- f. Click on Clear History > Yes.
-- g. Click on OK to exit.

3. Use Windows Explorer to search your C: and D: drives for \temp, \tmp, and \temporary folders, and delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use:
-- a. Click on Tools > Find > Files or Folders.
-- b. Type temp or tmp or temporary in the Named: box.
-- c. Click on the arrow at the right end of the Look in: box and then click on the disk drive to be searched.
-- d. Click on Find Now to start the search.
-- e. Click on the temp (or tmp or temporary) folders found to open them.
-- f. Delete any files in these folders that aren't currently in use.
-- g. Close Windows Explorer.

4. Check your C: and D: drives for errors. Refer to How to Perform Disk Error Checking in Windows XP. Another option is Norton SystemWorks 2005's Disk Doctor.

5. Defragment your C: and D: drives. Refer to How To Analyze and Defragment a Disk in Windows XP and How to Defragment Your Disk Drive Volumes in Windows XP. Executive Software's Diskeeper 9.0 is another option.

6. Reset your virtual memory paging file size to 1024 MB. Before changing your paging file settings, note what you started with, so that you can go back to those settings if desired. Be certain that you're logged on as an Administrator or a member of the Administrators group, then:
-- a. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-- b. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
-- c. In the Performance pane, click Settings.
-- d. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
-- e. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
-- f. Under Drive , click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
-- g. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size.
-- h. Change Initial size and Maximum size to 1024 (file size in megabytes).
-- i. Click Set, and then click OK.
-- j. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box. Close everything back to the Desktop.
-- k. Reboot.

7. You currently have the version 45.23 video driver installed, which is not the latest available from HP for your Pavilion a320n. Download and install the latest video driver (version 53.16, sp26286.exe) from HP, available here. Install as follows:
-- a. Reboot and log into Windows with full Administrator privileges.
-- b. Download and install DirectX 9.0c, available here. Do NOT use a "download accelerator" utility when downloading DirectX or any driver!
-- b. Install DirectX 9.0c:
----- 1.Click on Start > Run.
----- 2. Browse to the DirectX installer file, and double-click on it to put it in the Open: box.
----- 3. Click on OK to start the installation process.
----- 4. Follow the install Wizard's instructions. Accept the install defaults.
----- 5. Reboot when installation is complete.
-- c. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and install HP's version version 53.16 video driver:
----- 1. Click on Start > Run.
----- 2. Browse to sp26286.exe, and double-click on it to put it in the Open: box.

8. Your NVIDIA GeForce4 MX chipset shares 64 MB of system RAM. It's possible that you have bad RAM, so check your system RAM for errors. Use a utility like Memtest86 (free), available here. Click on 'Download - Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.2 installable from Windows and DOS' under 'Memtest86 3.2 Release (11/Nov/2004)'. If Memtest indicates problems, go to your BIOS's Chipset Features Setup page or whatever page the memory variables like latency are on, and load the BIOS defaults. Then try Memtest again. If you still get errors, you've got bad RAM, which should be replaced.

9. Use Windows Task Manager to close everything except for Explorer.exe, Ctfmon.exe, and whatever your hardware needs before starting Revelation:
-- a. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del once and then click on Task Manager.
-- b. Select the Applications tab.
-- c. Click on the desired application to highlight it.
-- d. Click on the End Task button at the bottom of the tab.
-- e. Repeat this procedure until all unnecessary applications and processes are closed. If you aren't sure which background processes or applications can be closed using Task Manager, check out the AnswersThatWork Task List Programs index. The most common tasks are described, and which ones are essential and which can be safely closed are noted.
-- f. Start Revelation.

10. Right-click on a blank area of the Desktop, then:
--- a. Click on Properties in the resulting drop-down menu.
--- b. Click on Settings > Advanced > NVIDIA card name.
--- c. You should now be looking at the NVIDIA management menu. Click on Performance & Quality Settings and under Global driver settings, View: the Advanced settings.
--- d. Mostly, you want to set Application controlled as the defaults, and initially more things 'off' than 'on', but play around with the settings until you find a combination that satisfies. In particular turn off Vertical Sync if it's initially set to Application-controlled.
--- e. If you change any settings, don't forget to click on Apply. Then click on OK > OK to exit to the Desktop.
--- f. Start Revelation after each change.

I have similar problems on a Gateway XP system with NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 400. Should I follow similar steps in the previous post?

Probably, but you should start a new topic in this Forum and post a DxDiag report. That'll give us a look at your system and result in a set of suggestions tailored for your particular situation.
