I am running Myst IV with Vista Enterprise no problems 250g hard drive,2g memory,Asus graphics EN7 300gt,512 memory. The only problem with the game is the so called help system, which does not do what is says on the tin.Cannot get the eguide from a ghastly company called Digitalriver.com, they wont download it outside the USA or Canada,it would appear that UBI have delegated this function to a rubbish company.

Welcome to the Forums, sokolov08!

Have you tried installing Revelation? If so, what problems are you having?

Solokov: If you have not yet purchased Myst IV, and you have a nice, fast cable/DSL internet connection, you can download the demo version of Myst IV from here. Keep in mind that that file is short of 200 MB in size, so that might not be the best idea.

If you do have a copy of Myst IV purchased and ready to go, you should try installing it and see what happens.

Please note that trying the demo will prove that you can NOT run Revelation on your PC, but being able to run the demo doesn't necessarily prove that you CAN run the full version of the game!

I try installing it on a Vista Ultimate SP1 laptop and get the infamous error:

Feature ***IS_STRING_NOT_DEFINED***
Component English data files
File G:\common\data\english\data.m4b
error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

This is a brand new laptop that I disconnected from the internet, turned off the Norton that came with it and turned off the Comodo firewall and antivirus that I had downloaded. Comodo is the only website I have visited and their program is the only one I have added to my system.
My desktop has a DVD-Rom, but it is not compatible with dual layer. I've had this game for many years and have yet to be able to install it, much less play it.

In general,
-- When playing Revelation, always log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, not into a Limited User or Power User account.
-- Reboot immediately before playing Revelation, close all open applications, and do NOT run any other applications before starting the game. Also close any anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-adware programs running in the background.
-- Do NOT boot up with Revelation Disc #2 (required to play the game) in the drive, or any disc in the drive.
-- When ready to play Revelation, insert Disc #2 into the drive and allow it to spin up to speed. Cancel back to the Desktop if it autostarts.
-- Always use the Desktop icon to start Revelation, not a disc menu item.

First-step suggestions:

1. Since this is an old game, it's quite possible that your discs have developed a plasticizer haze coating from being the case for so long. This haze may be invisible to the naked eye, but it's not invisible to your disc drive and could be interfering with disc reads.

Clean the shiny sides of the both discs using a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with either:
-- Water-clear rubbing alcohol - additive-free, no witch hazel or whatever, no green or blue color.
-- A warm mild dishwashing (*NOT* dishwasher) detergent solution.

In either case, instead of allowing the discs to air-dry, manually dry them with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dry with a center-outward motion, NOT circular around the disc.

There've been posts saying that cleaning discs requires multiple applications of alcohol and/or dishwashing detergent solution, along with a good bit of "elbow grease" or "scrubbing" while applying the solution. You might also try that sort of thing, being careful to use clean, soft cloths for both application of cleaning solution and drying the discs between solution applications. (Don't let the discs air-dry!)

Then try installing Revelation again.

2. Norton AntiVirus by default may automatically re-enable itself after a certain length of time. If you have that "feature", disable it before installing Revelation. (Also, *never* have two anti-virus or two firewall programs active at the same time!)

3. Try what's called out in the following.:
-- How to troubleshoot application compatibility issues in Windows Vista
-- How to troubleshoot issues that may prevent a program from being installed correctly on a Windows Vista-based computer
-- Advanced methods to troubleshoot a program that does not run as expected after it is installed on Windows Vista
