Hello-
My Mac OS X is version 10.4, does that mean that I will NOT be able to run Myst IV? How was I able to run Myst III then? Thank you for clarifying! |

I got this message... Is there a patch I need to install thusly? |

I beleive you tried downloading the patch instead of the Demo.
The Demo link from that page would have taken you here...click here |

FYI, Myst IV installed and plays fine on my PowerMac G5 under Mac OS X 10.4.11. (Myst V plays fine too, now that I have a faster graphics card.)

Myst IV plays very well under my G4 running OS X 10.4.11. I seem to recall that OS X 10.4.0 and updates thereof wouldn't run Myst IV, but either 10.4.6 or .7 and up would run it. Apple changed something in OS X that would make it run, I believe. I can't remember what it was, though...

Hi jacabyte,
You give me great hope that I can run Myst IV on my powerMac G5 because I just called technical support and they told me I couldn't. Is there anything special that you did to run it? I get through the opening cinema and the program closes before I hit the main menu. |

gingerale83,
What version of the Mac OS are you running? What version of QuickTime? Have you run Disk Utility recently to "Repair Permissions?" This message has been edited. gingerale: I didn't do anything special, I just dragged the installer onto my desktop, ran it, and started up Myst IV. I haven't noticed anything strange, though I did stop playing about 3 weeks ago. Just make sure you have the latest update of OS X Tiger. I'm not sure it'll run on Leopard, however. I doubt that it will.
I have OS X 10.4.11, Quicktime 7.0.4 and Myst IV 1.0.0. I'm using a MDD "Windtunnel" Mac with a 1.25 GHz G4. But you probably figured that out already. To the world, you are only one person. But to one person, you are the world. ~unknown |

I am running Tiger and I ran the repair permissions and made sure my quicktime was updated. I don't know what a windtunnel mac is, though. Perhaps that is why it works on your computer?

gingerale83,
As I posted above, Myst IV runs fine on my 2.7 GHz Dual CPU PowerMac G5. (Mac OS X 10.4.11, QT 7.5, Myst IV v 1.0.) Perhaps you should try running TechTool or Disk Warrior on your computer... maybe Cocktail as well, if you have it. ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

I've heard from many other users here who said that Myst IV worked on their Macs when running OS X Tiger. I doubt that my using a MDD G4 is the reason that Myst IV works for me and not for you, as differences in hardware usually have little effect on the compatibility of programs, especially with OS X. If you're using OS X Leopard I'll bet you 30 galactic credits that that's the root of the problem. Payable by April 1, 2132. :P To the world, you are only one person. Yeah I am running Tiger and not leopard... still don't know what's wrong.

Do you know what update you're using? The "About This Mac" window should have that information. (It should say something like "Version 10.4.11" right below the big black letters saying "Mac OS X")

I am using version 10.4.11 - I have a Powermac G5.

I'm stumped. The only thing that I can think of is the graphics card; I'm using an Ati 9500, and most Mac users that I know of also use Ati cards. Maybe Myst IV would have problems with an Nvidia card? I don't really know.

gingerale,
How about a few more details on your G5 hardware and software? Mac OS X v 10.4.11 is no problem for Myst IV. What is your graphics card? I'm guessing it's an ATI 9650, under which I used to run Myst IV just fine. If not, what is it? How much RAM do you have? When you wrote were you referring to the "Atrus" movie? Do you get any sort of error message when the program aborts? ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

I have two NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT cards. the total VRAM is 256MB per card. My computer says that there is, however, no display connected to the second card. I don't know if that means that it doesn't register the extra card or what. And yes, I was referring to the Atrus movie. No error message when the program aborts, it just completely quits.
