Me too!
Just bought a brand new iMac with the the intel duo and factory installed 10.4.7.
(I was REAL psyched to see Myst on the 20" screen,)
but I'm in the same boat as everybody else here, it crashes on start-up.
(ThinkTanks won't work either)

Addendum:
Something odd I noiced, the installer didn't ask for the administration (password protected) permission, normally required install any software.

I wish I had a useful suggestion for you guys, but I've been able to run the game just fine on my PowerMac G5 running 10.4.7... so I'm honestly at a loss.

Hi all

I have written to Ubi and Apple. Apple said, that this game don't support Intel Machines and Ubisoft told me, that there comes NO patch for this game. Frown

Best regards

I emailed ubi soft saying that I had a macbook and couldn't get myst iv to run.

They responded with the system requirements for a PC (which was totally useful </sarcasm> ), but it did lead me to realize that myst4 won't run with the GMA 950 integrated video card that comes with the macbook.

Oh well. Maybe I should have been more careful before I bought it. And I bought online, too. Now how do I get my money back.

Do any other Myst games run on a Macbook? because _MYST IV DOES NOT WORK ON A MACBOOK_.

For details, see SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS on the back of the Revelation box, or the Ubisoft Store's Myst IV Revelation page.

That doesn't answer the question of:
Is anything being done to make this game compatible to 10.4.7?

Points to ponder:
-- Revelation was released in September 2004, so it's not a "current" Ubisoft title.
-- Apple owners are in the vast minority of computer users. Or said another way, Ubisoft isn't going to realize a huge amount of revenue from fixing any Apple-related Revelation problems. Nor will Apple. (And good-will points don't feed the bulldog!)
-- The usual drill is that Apple says it's Ubisoft's problem, and Ubisoft says it's Apple's problem.

So, maybe you can answer that question yourself...?

I disagree. I've owned a Mac nearly my entire life. Albeit a Performa 6400. I also know several other people who own a Mac next to those who own a PC or a computer of any kind. And if you look at the number of people who have posted in this topic you will get a good idea of how many Mac users there are. So I would say that Mac owners/users are in the majority.

Hey, I really like that one! Big Grin

The logic is much like:
-- Many postal persons have pouches.
---- Many kangaroos have pouches.
------ Therefore, many postal persons are kangaroos.

Or, therefore, many kangaroos are postal persons.

Having watched my my local postal person constantly mis-delivering my mail, I certainly can't disagree!

Actually, while the statistics are beginning to shift (and are projected to continue) towards mor Mac users, right now Mac users are really the vast minority. While your personal experience may show a small example otherwise understand your situation is not the norm.

Aside from being cynical and often rude in an effort to be humorous, you make some valid points. However, the next time Ubisoft is looking at producing a game I wonder if they will consider the point that every Blizzard game is compatible to both Macs and PCs. I can still play Starcraft and Diablo on OS X 10.4.7 and there are over 8 million active WoW accounts. In the dog eat dog business of computer gaming, I see a certain irony that the only company embracing mac users in computer gaming is also the company that always puts out top selling titles... and continues to support them over a decade after they are made... Weird huh?

***Logic Note: I also perfectly understand that Blizzard's success is not due to the fact that the 'vast numbers of mac users' are rallying behind them. Rather, it's because they work to include and support everyone using their software. And in that effort, while not always profitable, they have developed a very dedicated fanbase of repeat buyers.

I say that, according to this article, that there are more Mac users than you would think at first, but for the most part any statistic will be skewed one way or another and there is no way to figure out how many people use a Mac for sure.

And, using logic I've presented in previous posts, I think that Heimdall is a hyena. Big Grin

Thankx d.erne for this info! I do have the same problem with my new MacBook Pro and guess I will have to throw away the CD I bought Frown
Well I guess that comes with buying something that isn't available as a universal binary (which I surely won't do anymore).

Well I have some good news. 10.4.8 seems to have reversed the problem. As soon as I upgraded to 10.4.8 I tried Myst 4 and it's working!!! Smile So hopefully everyone else will have the same good fortune.

I've got another problem.... I've installed Mac OS 10.4.8 for Intel (I have the macbook pro). Now, hooray!, the game starts: the introduction with Atrus plays and the menu appears. However, if I press 'New Game', the screen goes black (excpet for something that says version 1.03 at the bottom... is that new?) and the menu theme song continues and loops and loops. No game! I've had to restart my computer every time this happens. I can't escape or quit or anything. ARGH! I've clicked on 'Credits' and that works fine: graphic and song. What is going on?? Please help!!
Thanks
Revian

For the record, I have a Dual 2.7 GHz Power PC Mac, and I have played partial Myst IV games using OS X 10.4.6, .7, and .8 with no tech problems but one: taking the pic at the beginning when Yeesha stops the "tram" works only randomly. Sometimes the camera responds, but more often it does not (using all three OS versions). Other than that, everything I have tried worked just peachy keen.
