have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times and still it will not play.

redracecar/jester,

Questions:

1. What OS-related problems were you having that caused you to update to 10.4.7?

2. After the 10.4.7 update, have you had problems with any other programs or with any OS functions, or any weird glitches whatsoever?

3. How did you update to 10.4.7?
-- a. Download and install the 10.4.7 Combo Updater file (Mac OS X Update 10.4.7 Combo Intel or Mac OS X Update 10.4.7 Combo PPC).
-- b. Download and install the 10.4.7 Delta Updater file (Mac OS X Update 10.4.7 Intel or Mac OS X Update 10.4.7 PPC).
-- c. Via the Software Update function located in the Apple menu.

4. Did you:
-- a. Do a full system backup before updating to 10.4.7?
-- b. Have any problems or get any error messages during the 10.4.7 update process?
-- c. Have your machine doing anything else (like copying files, for example) while the update was in progress?
-- d. Check and repair permissions after the update was complete and after rebooting?

5. Have you tried re-installing 10.4.7?

There were no issues prior to updating to 10.4.7
There have been no other glitches with 10.4.7, only the myst issue.
I update via the software update function in the apple menu.
Did not do a backup
Have repaired permissions
Have not tried re-installing 10.4.7

Please advise...

Thank you

Try re-installing using the appropriate 10.4.7 Combo Updater file.

Okay. I'll try that.

Should I remove the previous 10.4.7 intel patch package before installing the new combo package?

That's what I'd do. Very carefully, of course!

Probably the best thing for you to do is just install the Combo over what you've got now.

Also, check out mhunter's post of Jun 27, 2006 9:11 PM in the Apple Discussions Topic APPLE TECH SUPPORT PEOPLE PLEASE HELP 10.4.7 IS BAD BAD WARNING TO OTHERS. Some good things to do when updating your OS.

You can go back to 10.4.6, but not without possible problems. See Mac OS X: How to reinstall a prior version.

Have you tried completely removing Revelation and then re-installing, after running the 10.4.7 Combo updater?

See also Mac OS X 10.4: Reopening an application after it unexpectedly quits. Have you used the Try Again option?

Also had the same problem. Installed on an Intel iMac and with the chmod patch in terminal, it worked just fine - until 10.4.7 update. Same result as above and have tried completely uninstalling & reinstalling the app (and applying the patch command), but the resulting crash remains. Any further thoughts?

Ditto on vonsned approach. Myst still crashes. I am new to iMac, finally making the switch from PC. WHY is this happening? Does Apple and/or UBI realize these issues? UBI can't expect users not to upgrade their OS.

Heimdall, based upon past experience, what will play out? Will we see a patch?

i have removed the myst program completely.
repaired permissions.
restarted my macbook pro.
installed the intel combo update.
repaired permissions.
restarted.
installed myst.
restarted.
...and still we crash on launch. it's as if the program is not even given a chanve to launch, after the disc is read, screen goes black, then a large blue field, then black again, then it gives the 'quit unexpectedly' thing again. and i've tried the "re-try" button.
at this point, i think i'll just sell the game and try another that is 10.4.7 compatible.
i thought the macbook pro with all it's superpowers and all, would be able to handle a little game like myst.

From what I know, Ubisoft (or Apple, for that matter) issuing a patch to solve Revelation/10.4.7 problems is unlikely.

But stranger things have happened, so keep watching the Revelation Forums for late-breaking news.

There are apparently some substantial bugs in 10.4.7 in the new video drivers. I would expect those bugs to be fixed either in yet another revision of 10.4.7, an update to the video drivers specifically or in 10.4.8. It does seem to be a MacOS issue though, not a UbiSoft one.

I suspect the problem is much more likely to be Rosetta than any of the native graphics or sound drivers. You have to remember that, on Intel based macs, OSX is doing a considerable amount of heavy lifting to get old ppc software to run. In fact, it is on-the-fly recompiling the software. For totally well behaved software this is not so much of a problem but games have a tendency to push the OS in ways not originally intended and this can cause issues when you try to emulate or recompile.

Of course, if any non-intel mac users are having problems as well then rosetta is not the problem but I've not seen any reports from non-intel macs.

Having run into the same problem of Myst4 not running myself (on an intel mac) - and I can get as far as selecting a saved game, just for the record - I recommend, as there is no patch, that you submit the report you have the option to submit to apple, saying what you were trying to do at the time, and wait for 10.4.8 Smile

Hey all,

I too have had problems with Myst IV on 10.4.7. I can't even get the installer to work. I have to say that I am VERY disappointed with the phone technical support who just searched the knowledge-base.

Basically, if I try to install Myst IV I get an error stating that it

=============================================
can't make <<class ctnr>> of alias "Myst4_1:MystIV_Setup.app" into type string
=============================================

One might think that Myst IV is too old to be installed on this system, but the funny thing is that Myst III installs and runs fine. Ubi should prepare themselves and their support professionals more adequately especially considering that if it wern't for the Macintosh there would be no Myst.

If anyone has any light to shine on this issue, I would appreciate it! Thanks.
