Will Myst IV and Myst V run on your laptop? The answer is – probably, but no guarantees!

On the backs of the boxes/slipcases of both Myst IV and Myst V under System Requirements, Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:

“Laptop models of these cards not fully supported.” (Myst IV)

“Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported.” (Myst V)

Each laptop motherboard manufacturer's implementation of a given video chipset is a little different, and each motherboard/Win XP combination functions a little differently. Since Ubisoft undoubtedly didn't verify Myst IV and Myst V compatibility with every available combination, we see those disclaimers. However, the games must play properly on the great majority of laptops, or these Forums would be overwhelmed with unhappy laptop owners. Which they’re not.

At the very least, you’ll need to install the latest video and sound drivers from your laptop manufacturer’s website. Also, it’s best to install both Myst IV and Myst V from a clean boot. For details, see:

There are demonstration versions of both games available. These demos will tell you if your laptop can NOT run Myst IV and Myst V, but they may not prove that your machine CAN run the games.

The bottom line is, the only way to be absolutely certain whether you can run the games is to buy ‘em and try ‘em!

So what do you do if you "buy 'em" as you say and they don't work? Is there a way to get your money back? The store around here won't take back opened software.

Very few stores will take back opened software, even if it doesn't work. From the store's perspective, it's definitely “caveat emptor”. Unfortunately, if that turns out to be your situation, in my experience you're SOL.

The best you can do is update your video and sound drivers, then install the demos. If they play properly, you've got at least an even chance that the full games will also play properly.

But as I said, no guarantees!
