I've finally got Myst IV working after a month of frustration, so I thought I'd post my findings here in case it helps someone. This forum certainly helped me a lot.

I'm running Windows XP Pro on a 3Ghz P4 with 512MB RAM.

Disk 1 started fine but Disk 2 was a no-go, I kept getting cyclic redundancy check errors. So after reading around a bit I went and installed the latest firmware for my Sony DVD-RW DRU-500A. The errors for Disk 2 changed to ***IS_STRING_NOT_DEFINED something or other***, even with a minimum install.

I thought I had no programs running in the background (I disabled my AV software) until I discovered that Symantec AntiVirus by default automatically re-enables itself after a certain amount of time. I disabled that feature and guess what? It worked.

Halleluia praise the lord

Started up the game and the configurator was not happy with my graphics driver (I have a Radeon 9200) so I went into properties and had windows do an automatic driver update. The configurator still wasn't satisfied with it but I tried playing the game anyway. Jumpy graphics, out-of-sync audio and then huge coloured blocks when it was time to take my first photograph.

So I went to the ATI website and installed the latest package of I-don't-know-what but there was a driver in there somewhere, and the configurator was finally appeased. The audio is now in sync and the blocks are gone. WOOOHOOOO

However it is running a bit slow and it takes an eternity to go from one sequence to another or to shift in and out of zoom. I'm thinking of changing the game's compatibility setting to Windows 2000 to see if that helps but I'm afraid it might screw something up?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If someone has any idea on this, pls let me know.

Thank you in Advance.

Suggestions, to do in the order shown and playing Revelation after completing each suggestion:

1. Do steps 1 through 5 under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up in Myst IV: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP.

2. The items under Installing and Re-Installing Revelation, 1. Preventing Installation Problems - General Comments in Myst IV: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP also apply to game play problems. Try all of the ones that apply to your system.

3. Try steps 1, 2, 3, and 4 (in that order) in Myst IV: Miscellaneous Fixes for Video Problems.

4. Correctly installing the proper driver for your Radeon 9200 chipset and Revelation is detailed in Myst IV: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP, under Installing ATI Radeon Drivers. If you have Catalyst 6.3 or 6.4 installed, try installing Catalyst 3.8 and then Catalyst 4.12, if 3.8 doesn't solve the "slow" problems.

5. Re-install Revelation from a clean boot as detailed in Myst IV: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP, under Installing and Re-Installing Revelation, 7. Clean-boot Revelation Re-install, Previous Installation.

6. If none of the above help, post a DxDiag report in this thread so that we can take a look at your system and maybe make recommendations. See [Posting Guidelines] Help! I'm Having Technical Problems and I Don't Know Why!?! under To post a DxDiag report for a how-to. Run all of the tests you can on the Display, Sound and Music tabs before saving the report to a file, and post *ALL* of the contents of the file. If the manufacturer and exact model number of your PC aren't shown under 'System Information', System Manufacturer and System Model at the top of the report, also include that information in your post.
