Ok.I'm on an emachine desktop modelw3080.I installed an FX5500 nVidia with 256mg.All drivers have been updated.I've tried all the patches recommended including safedisc.Nothing has changed what it does.It loaded fine.Starts up, I choose New game, the intro movie plays with one place always having a little blocky shatter then when the little girl in the sky car gets to the end of the line and says this was always your favorite spot it crashes back to desktop.I've recently done a complete systems restore with the xp restore disc's.I had this same problem before and the only game on my computer right now is Myst IV Revelation. Here is the info from my dxdiag. What can I do too fix this.

I've played FarCry dozens of times without any trouble.Today I reinstalled it since I haven't been able to get Myst IV to play, and when it loads I get a screen full of blocky shatter before the menu page loads and before I can start the game it freezes up.The only way out is to hit the space bar which takes me back to the desktop.Could I have hurt my video card by swapping drivers back and forth?

It's highly unlikely that you damaged your video card by swapping drivers back and forth.
Suggestions: Do NOT boot up with either of the Revelation DVD's in the drive. Insert DVD2 into the drive only when ready to play Revelation, and if you get an autostart, cancel back to the Desktop and use the game's start icon. 1. When you change NVIDIA drivers, it's especially important to remove the existing driver before installing the new driver. Did you change drivers as detailed under Installing NVIDIA Drivers, "5. Here's the driver installation procedure." in Myst IV: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP? If you did not, re-install ForceWare 93.71 by following that procedure. 2. The "little blocky shatter" in the intro movie may be a QuickTime problem. Install or re-install the latest version of QuickTime as follows: First, uninstall all versions of QuickTime. -- a. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- b. Click on Start > Control Panel, then double-click Add or Remove Programs. -- c. In the Currently installed programs box, click on the QuickTime entry. -- d. Click on Change (or Change/Remove). -- e. If prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes. -- f. If you have more than one QuickTime entry, repeat as necessary to remove *all* installed versions of QuickTime. -- g. Close Control Panel back to the Desktop, and reboot. Then install QuickTime 7.1.3. -- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- b. Download version 7.1.3 iTunesSetup.exe or QuickTimeInstaller.exe (your choice) from here to a folder on your hard drive. -- c. Disable all anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up software running in the background. -- d. Click on Start > Run. -- e. Browse... to iTunesSetup.exe or QuickTimeInstaller.exe, and double-click on the file to put it in the Open: box. -- f. Click on OK to begin the installation process. Accept the install defaults. -- g. Close back to the Desktop when installation is complete, and reboot. -- h. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- i. Play Revelation. 3. Run the Revelation Update Utility. If you accepted the Revelation install defaults, mystupdate.exe is in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Myst IV - Revelation\bin\updatelauncher. -- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. Make certain that you have an active Internet connection. -- b. Click on Start > Run. -- c. Browse... to mystupdate.exe, and double-click on the file to put it in the Open: box. -- d. Click on OK to run the Utility. -- e. Allow any updating to fully complete, then close the Utility. -- f. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- g. Play Revelation. 4. Run the Revelation Configuration Utility. If you accepted the Revelation install defaults, myst_detection.exe is in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Myst IV - Revelation\bin\configurator. -- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- b. Click on Start > Run. -- c. Browse... to myst_detection.exe, and double-click on the file to put it in the Open: box. -- d. Click on OK to run the Utility. Do all of the items under Minimum Specifications have green checkmarks? If not, which items and what do they have instead of green checks? Also, is everything correct under Video capabilities? 5. Reset Revelation options as follows. -- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- b. Start Revelation, and click on the OPTIONS button (7 o'clock position in button circle). -- c. Click on the AUDIO OPTIONS icon (2nd main icon from left at top of page). -- d. Uncheck the boxes (by clicking on them) for: ----- 1. Overall volume, Music and SFX ON/OFF ----- 2. Music volume, Music ON/OFF -- e. Play Revelation. Does Revelation now play correctly? Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

I uninstalled the quicktime and then reinstalled the 7.1.3 version from itunes. The shatter went away and it no longer freezes.Or at least it didn't for the few minutes I played it,which is way past where I could get before. Now if I could just get FarCry to stop having the blocky shatter and stop freezing up.It's a Ubisoft game also if your not familiar with it.If you haven't got any ideas then I'll try to find the forum for that game.Either way, thanks so much for all the help and time you devoted to this issue.I hope all that info I posted wasn't over the top.It sure seemed like it was to me.But it was all greek to me. Thanks again.

Can't help you with Far Cry, since I've never played the game. However, if you'll post over in the Far Cry Technical Community Help Forum, someone there should be able to solve the problem.
