Hi, I installed Myst IV ok--but it won't start. I saw a patch for this problem "Myst4-103-ndvd.zip" I saved to my hard drive--changed name in the bin of Myst4.exe & m4_thor_rd.dll to read everything plus "OLD" I copied, separately, the 2 files ,new ones, & pasted into the bin. I did nothing to the read me files. Don't se it in the bin. Still won't start up. What am I doing wrong? Thanks,
Betty |

When Revelation doesn't start, do you get any error messages, and if so, what's the exact wording of the message(s)?
Pending the answer to that question, some suggestions: 1. Note that you should have Disc 2, not Disc 1, in the drive when starting Revelation. If that isn't how you've been starting Revelation, try it. Also, don't boot up with a CD or DVD in any drive. 2. The Myst4-103-nDVD.zip patch you applied is intended to correct errors like "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, select OK and restart application" and "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert Myst 4_1". Unless you got those errors when starting Revelation with Disc 2 in the drive, applying the patch wasn't really a good thing to do. Also, before applying the Myst4-103-nDVD.zip patch, you should have applied the version 1.03 update patch. There are two Revelation update patches, the version 1.02 patch and the version 1.03 patch. These patches are both available here. I recommend applying the 1.02 patch and then the 1.03 patch. The 1.02 patch is 41.1 MB, while the 1.03 patch is only 15.4 MB, which may mean there's "good stuff" included in 1.02 that isn't included in 1.03. Download both patches, and apply them as follows: -- a. Log into Win XP with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- b. Click on Start > Run. -- c. Browse to myst4_v1.00_to_v1.02_pc.exe, and double-click on it to put it in the Open: box. -- d. Click on OK to start the install process. -- e. Follow the Wizard's instructions, and accept the install defaults. -- f. Reboot when installation is complete. -- g. Close all open applications. -- h. Click on Start > Run. -- i. Browse to myst4_v1.0_to_v1.03_pc.exe, and double-click on it to put it in the Open: box. -- j. Click on OK to start the install process. -- k. Follow the Wizard's instructions, and accept the install defaults. -- l. Reboot when installation is complete. -- m. Log into Win XP with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- n. Start Revelation. 3. If the above don't help, try re-installing Revelation from a clean boot as detailed under Installing and Re-Installing Revelation, "8. Clean-boot Revelation Re-install, Previous Installation" in Myst IV: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. -- a. Follow the step-by-step instructions *carefully*! It's a good idea to print them out, so that you can check off each step as you complete it. -- b. Before re-installing, carry out steps 1, 2, and 4 under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up. -- c. Since you don't have any saved game progress, don't do steps 8b and 8t. -- d. If Revelation doesn't play properly after re-installation, apply the update patches as above.
