Hi all,
I've been seeking an answer to this one for what seems like an eternity now. I recently switched to mac from windows and obviously some of my old software is incompatible. However, I know my copy of Revelation should work based on other forums I've read, even though it is supposedly only compatible with 10.3, etc.

The problem is that when I insert Disc 1, I follow the directions and drag and drop the "MystIV_Setup" icon into my Mac OS X drive, then double click to launch it. The program appears in the dock for a second or two, then closes abruptly. That is IT WILL NOT INSTALL PERIOD (the installer will not run). I've tried everything I could think of and/or find, including modifying permissions in terminal using "chmod a+x", but to no avail. One thing I have noticed, I can't find the folder directories everyone is talking about, as in the ones labeled "Ubisoft", "Myst4", etc.

What am I not getting, or what am I doing wrong with the permission modification? I am new to macs, but not computers so this one has me stumped. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I think the Setup program is supposed to create the /Ubisoft/ folders and such, but is failing.

I've done some exploration on the install disc, and it appears that the installer is failing to find the Java Virtual Machine. I'm not sure why, but that's what it appears to be.

Unfortunately, even on a machine where Revelation was already installed (when I was running 10.5), the game won't launch. It immediately crashes. So even if you figure out how to get it installed, it still won't work.

[sigh]

I agree with you, bjhomer. I think you're right about the game not being able to find the Java VM. However, numerous people have managed to find success with the installed game by merely changing around a few permissions and applying a patch or two. Therefore, I think it will work...once someone figures out how to install it.

Strangely, I am having the same problem on my PM 2.7 GHz dual-CPU G5 running Mac OS X 10.4.11. And just recently I had the game installed on my hard disk, and it ran fine. But I even more recently had to re-format my HD, reinstall the Mac OS, and attempt to reinstall Myst IV. I had exactly the same experience as in the original post. I have been poking around and found the following:

1) After dragging the MystIV Setup.app file to my HD and double-clicking, and after it briefly opened and closed, I opened "Console" and read the log. It stated:

Invalid or corrupt jarfile /Applications/Games/Macinstaller.jar

2) Using "Show Hide Invisible Files.app" and setting to 'show,' I looked at the files hidden on the Myst IV disc #1. There is indeed a "Macinstaller.jar" file there. There is also a "mac.command" file. Double-clicking on the mac.command file on Disc #1 initiates a hunt for the "Java virtual machine." However the process is stopped because:

Initializing InstallShield Wizard...

Searching for Java(tm) Virtual Machine...

Running InstallShield Wizard...
The wizard cannot continue because of the following error: cannot find /wizard.xml (104)

Maybe someone else can make something of this, but I can't.
