1) You can change the color of the smoke by pulling the left trigger after you have selected smoke grenades from your inventory. I don't know the colors off hand, but you can tell what color you are about to throw as it will change in your HUD.

2) No, you cannot increase your skill points (SP) after 1SG. However, if you are using an architype, you may continue to earn SP. Do not spend it! Make sure you only use 480 SP at any one time. If it's too late, and your stats are already glitched, you must continue to earn SP until your meter is full (480 SP), and after that, you'll earn redistribution points (RP). Use your RP to take active SP down to 480. An easy way to make sure you only use 480 SP is to copy your points from offline. One way to know you're using too many points is to check how many bandages you have in game. Unless your Combat Lifesaver skills is extremely low, you should have more than three bandages.
