I am a huge Splinter Cell fan and all of Tom Clancy's games. End War is going to be amazing, Rainbow Six was incredible esspecially over the years its progressed, Ghost Recon here and there and now Splinter Cell... What the hell is going on with that game?
Well you all know Splinter Cell as hide in the dark and play cat and mouse. You can be seen as the cat looking for the mouse who is looking for the cheese or the mouse looking for the cheese while being hunted by the cat. Well its stealth that made this game what it is. What kind of stealth? Well thing about "Stealth" basically no one seems to understand and i love this definition: Stealth is the art or act of being unoticed, undectable. In Splinter Cell that "Stealth" was... yep you got it... LIGHT! As the definition of "Stealth" may seem yep thats it, light is the only stealth... WRONG! Its not Stealth: The act/art of useing the darkness, shadows and light to be undectable, unoticed. So now we know what stealth REALLY is. The first 3 splinter cell games were a huge hit! It was probably the most unique game out there! The game "idea" was also ahead a bit of the software they used to make it and guess what! Ubisoft/Tom Clancy made it and it worked!!! Now in chaos theroy with all the new software, how they can make this game stand out to what it use to be was incredible! But everything went down hill after that... well actually no. Splinter Cell still kept Stealth action alive in its games but a new breed of stealth. yes in double agent you were thrown out on missions in the day time but there was still stealth to it, the camo you were to wear like in the ice level after hooking up with the JBA. There was still hell of a lot of challenges and its was unique! I can't say that ubisoft made the wrong decision to making that game but a BOLD move. It was a great game with out a doubt but i do miss some of the darkness but it was no problem the storylinewas clever the act of being a double agent was awsome, it was just an oustanding job. Back to the point, ubisoft lost a ton of thier customers who enjoyed they old splinter cell games due to the light, why? Whats so great about it? yes it was cool and all but they cant make another few games of that i mean really what more could you ask for in those old dark games. a new gadget or two and a new storyline... thats it?!?! they made a bold and right move when making double agent and they are doing it again with convicition. I will say when i first got the 360 and saw the new splinter cell game i was horrifyed at what they had done... but it took time to relize, i'll go try it, what the hell its my favorite game series and i wont let it die because of a few changes!!! I tryed it and was so glad i did. The multiplayer was kind of disapointing but i got over it but no dark and light i didnt care!!!! the game was great the sides you can choose what u can and dont have to do they wre making that game lean into ConVicition 100% Now for the icing on the cake! ConVicition everybody hates it?!?! Why?!?! have you even played the game??! has it came out yet?!?! its like when halo 3 released and there was so much hype to it! but it was really just the same game... just with extra stuff to make it thier last in that series... With conviction i feel its gonna be the opposite of that! well sorta. i think all of you that hate should and will eventually try conviction and see how amazing it really is and how right ubisoft was! They cant make the same type of dark stealth action game again and again just to add a different storyline and a gadget or two... I felt the same way about convicition as all of you who hated it untill i looked up on it more. IGN was a huge help to turn me around. Conviction will be amazing! The new life like graphics, new game engine the whole thing! remeber when you would pick up and object in a different game how it looked like it would glitch right into your hand? or how when you killed or knocked some guy out in splinter cell and went to grab him and it totally shifted you or the body? well not anymore they desinged smooth and just outstanding software to make everything lifelike from picking up a chair any way its laying on the ground, to a punch in the face by good ol' same to the cop. The lighting will be lifelike everything! how light refracts and reflects in a room changing the color and brightness, when you have multiple of lights on one thing creating shadows the whole 9 yards!! i suggest all of you to really look up this game and i know eactly where to start IGN is perfect read up on thier 4-6 articles on whats gonna make conviction unique amazing and totaly worth it, and well different you know. but they sure as hell didnt ruin the game! Oh and another thing, GTA 1-4 are sand box games. yes? assassin's creed showed what next gen gaming can do with the crowds of the street and the AI in gmaing. Well this game will topple over those 2 to create something better! You need to go from point A to point B in ConViction when they say improvise they mean it 100%!!! choose your path through the city to get to the destination there can be over 5-10 routes to take and i mean TONS of ways to doing it. you arent stuck to this single path and having to deal with whatevers in your way now you can manuver and change in seconds! Say theres two streets ones light up with crowds of people and cops of course and the other is dark and lighten up but no way of driving away the patroling guards. well you can take either becuase you see a group of people taking a picture or a hotdog stand with a propane tank in the all lighting up street... bam bam bam the hot dog stand explodes you run creating a huge diversion attracting the guards its your time to shine you get out of there taking down anything in your path. or you can take a riskier but stealthier way to get to point B. yes stealthier is riskier in this game because you have to be on the move at all times! when you mess up in one of the old games well now thats a plus plus for you. now get going you get to play conviction how you probably would have wanted to play in any oyther game!! here is the ign article home page and i swear if this dosnt change you ways of thinking about this game then i dont think anything will. http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/902/902601.html heres the first article of 4-6 of them or so http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/788/788655p1.html there is so much more to this game then what i have told you and i hope that you take your effortless time to really see what this game is capable of. I hope to see all of you old splinter cell gamers in Double Agent online and the new Splinter Cell: ConViction. I can't wait!!! i'll be checking on this post every few days! --inevitable08 (xbox 360 gamertag: online game i will play SC: Double Agent, SC: Chaos Theory (co-op i love it), Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War (a maybe lol) --------------- It was inevitable! Your death is inevitable... its just a matter of time! |

I stopped reading when you said you didnt understand why people didnt like conviction. And you supported your statement by saying that it isnt even released yet...
First impressions matter. You dont need to play a game to know its crap. Lets say pokemon comes out for the 360, would you really say "Well I havent played it yet so I wont have any preconcieved notions about the game". Or will you say "pokemon! this game is gonna blow"? your a big newbie hypocrite |

By reading this I just get more dissappointed the game doesnt have to go to crowd stealth to be innovating again. Look MGS4 didnt stray from its roots and its innovationg, Call of Duty 4 did the same the game has the same gameplay as the old ones did the only difference is that its in another time period. If you tell me SC is getting repetive then explain the change from PT to CT a perfect example of keeping a game in its roots and still making it innovating. They could do that they could do the change from CT to whatever without changing the games origins. These days I only see shooters in the market Ive been waiting for a L&S SC game that is innovating and that introduces a new concept but that it stays true to the games origins.

Though I am excited about Convictions but at same time I am quite worried about it's stealth mechanics. The stealth system in the previous games encouraged the player to think convergently but the Social Stealth system in Assassin's Creed does not involve that much of thinking. However I do support the new stealth concept and I hope the dev identifies the weaknesses and create a stealth system which motivates the player to think .

inevitable08: ''have you even played the game??! has it came out yet?!?!''
No. Have you? Then you say: ''Conviction will be amazing!'' How can YOU say the game will be good (let alone amazing) if you won't let us not like the game because we haven't played it. Neither have you, so all of that seems to be a bit conflicting. Now for the rest of your story (thank you for letting us know what you think this well, this clear and this non-aggressive, that's somewhat rare on forums); concerning the changes in ConVicion, there are three groups: those you hate it, those who like it and those who don't know it yet. Each and everyone with one of those opinions has made them by what they've seen so far and how they feel about it. One might hate the game for the very same reasons you don't. So it's fine if you want to let people know there's more information on ConViction on IGN, but don't tell them ConViction WILL be like this or that because you think so. Tell us how you feel, now how we are supposed to feel about ConViction. ‘’Conviction is so different, you wonder what makes UbiSoft think this should even be called a sequel to the critically acclaimed and groundbreaking series.’’ – IGN.com ‘’2008 could be a make or break year for the venerable Sam Fisher.’’ – Next-gen.biz ‘’The end of Splinter Cell?’’ and ‘’Only the name remembers us to the series of the olden times.’’ – Power Unlimited |

MGS 4 changed lots of things, many fans like Splinter Cell fans complaining both their games going more action orientated if you give someone the chance they will find something to complain about.
People where bored of shooting Nazi's and playing within the WW2 era, this is a general consensus across gaming today, people are fed up of it... Using your logic here, how can you get bored of a repetitive era like WW2? Brothers in Arms Hells Highway looks good, but it's WW2 again! COD 5 goes back to that Pacific era fighting the Vietnamese and already people are saying they will hold out for an Infinity Ward game, because WW2 and those old era's have gone past their sell by date. But funnily, you see developers keep making games in that era, the reason being is they're safe bet games, but with the progression and the repitition of that era the sales are dimming. How come Splinter Cell cannot get boring? let me use an excessive example if they made 12 games of the same gameplay I wouldn't even look at a Splinter Cell game anymore, I would put it in the same basket that The Sims has been in for the past decade, rehash after rehash.
It's funny you bring this up. If you go back to 2005 when information was shown off about Chaos Theory, you know what the people who are here on this forum, do you know what they said about the game back then? "it's dumbed down for newbies" "All you do is shoot and stab people, this sucks" sound familiar today 2008? The reason they said this was because they saw trailers, when a demo came out they changed their minds.
Only shooters? Alan Wake a light and Shadow game, Velvet Assassin another Light and Shadow game, Alpha Protocol another Light and Shadow game using RPG elements. Prototype another Action/Stealth game all of which are TPS and don't always require action to be done. What about Thief 4? TPS using old Light and Dark mechanics the game that inspired Splinter Cell? Then there is Sabotage another TPS stealth/action game. Lots of games are coming out that in the genre of stealth which aren't just "shooters". Even Goldeneye was a stealth/action game, go through the dam level without alerting anyone, will be interesting to see the new James Bond game which is a shooter, and see if it combines any of the old gameplay mechanics. But I'll tell you what I find quite ironic is, these games that have Light and Shadow gameplay mechanics look absolutely no different then Splinter Cell 2001. Look at Velvet Assassin, same gameplay mechanics, Tenchu same gameplay mechanics, Thief series same gameplay mechanics, and you're saying you cannot get bored of them? I call that perception, because you have to look at it from a stand point and say while I love this gameplay mechanics and I would take 25+ games of it, would the fellow next man? and the answer is mixed, not everyone wants the samething over and over again, even if you innvoate in it because it's the same theme. Hence why trying something new isn't always a bad thing, but ofcourse if you cannot look at it from that stand point you will never understand other peoples point of view. But if you do, you do realise it's a catch 22 don't you? How do you please old fans who are bored and old fans who want the samething? First thing that pops into your head is light and shadow with crowds... I thought you knew me but it seems you never did I tried to find you in the castle where you hid. I took the pictures that you ruined from my wall. No one remembered me I was right after all. |

Lol @L&S with crowds, tutorial coming up:
Sam, welcome to ConViction©. Look around you. You see that crowd over there? Look at the people in it. You see those Goth's and Emo's there? That implies it is a shadow-crowd. You can hide in these crowds no problem, they won't mind. (I'm not calling anyone mindless Now if you turn around, you can see another crowd. You see how happy they all are? That means this is a light crowd. You could hide among them, but it's probably better not to. Cops will usually discover you when you're trying to hide in a light crowd. There are, of course, exeptions to this rule. For example, special forces equiped with NightVision-Goggles™ will discover you immediately when you try to hide in a shadow-crowd, but they will have a hard time if you're among the lighters, cause they'll become blinded from looking into those area's. (I'll stop here, because the 'shoot out the light' part won't be suitable for younger readers This disclaimer is my signature: What you read in my posts and what I am trying to tell you. One might not be the other, while the other might nog be one. Please disagree, I love a healthy debate. I don't hate you. I don't know you. I don't want you. I don't exist. Do you? Honestly, ERN, you speak so much about keeping L&S and keeping it innovative, but can provide a detailed solution whatsoever? And if you, by all means, say it. Because crap like adding a few new gadgets won't cut it. Otherwise, it'd just end up like R6V2 AKA Revolutionary at being Epic Phail Machine.

Changing the AI significantly so that when the player sounds too many alarms it is nearly impossible for him to complete the mission.
One alarm makes the guards patrlo out of their areas and too start communicating more and if you grab a guard when he is communicating with the other guard then the guard will hear it and ask another guard to come with him to investigate what happened to the communicating partner. Two alarms makes the guards put on more gear and use heavier weapons. Three alarms and the guards start reporting to security offices at certain times and if one guard doesnt report then the security offices send reinforcements to that area and those reinforcements stay there until that guard is found. Four alarms makes the guards radio for reinforcements and they also ask for night vision kits that they will use to patrol. They will also bring more lights so that you cant hide so easily and they are bulletproof. Putting more detection devices and no you cant use guards to get through laser grids and since retinal scanners are nearly impossible to hack to only get 2 lock thingies for the hacking and the code to hack the electronic stuff should be longer than four digits. |

|
Honestly, that sounded like an expansion pack... Enhanced alarm response and new gadgets... Is that all? Still sounds basically the same.

Something like that is already in the game according to an IGN Interview from last year. Let me see if I can find the link...no obviously not. Well, it was something like every action Sam is able to do has a certain value attached to it. For example bumping into a civilian has a low value. Bumping into a Cop (who could recognize Sam's face) / shooting in public, has a higher one and blowing up a car or creating some other kind of large Chaos has the highest one. So the more Chaos you create, the higher the value gets and the more difficult the game is going to get. I believe it was even explained that at a certain value, the authorities are going to lock up the area and call the NSA for help, which is then going to send Third Echelon Agents who are well aware of Sam's face and abilities. Ah First of all, i'm kinda excited about this "Next gen" Splinter cell game, and I just can't wait.
but You gotta admit they gave up some cools stuffs too. And everyone is just upset about those things. Because UBI didn't show us other really cool things to cover those given up things... What I really hate about those Crowd stealth and interact with all stuffs (although I do think i'll enjoy playing Sam Fisher.) is they're gonna totally different with what UBI says. It's not like what they claim. They say it's gonna be really cool. BUT, AI is just bunch of lines. Just do something till player triggers something. And Just do some other stuffs that is programmed by designers. And that's all! Next generation of gameplay?? I don't think they are writing really huge script (If they do. that's gonna be really something). So it's like just adding few "Acting" to npcs (or more than just few). you know? I think AIs in Splinter cell 1234 were not good enough. They were just walking around or not walking. and they heard sounds or saw something. they just walked into those "danger" Crowds. In real world, people react if someone doing some weird stuffs. BUT AIs just react when they're triggered. Even If player just spin at same spot, those Crowds won't even care! becaue it just doesn't trigger them. and If UBI want to prevent this to happen, they shoud write this kind of situation on AI script, and it's not possible. (I mean, they can't write down about these situations but it's limited) This may sound little too much. BUT If UBI wants to say "It's new gaming experience!!", They should make difference with what i wrote above... And talking about Interactions, I guess It's just same with AI. They claim player can just use "EVERYTHING" but it's not like that... Just some limited actions... Oh I just noticed I want Sam Fisher more as "Splinter Cell" than as "Fugitive" I'm a fan of SC series. I cleared 1, 2 more than 2 times each. And 3 chaos theory, like 10 times. (I think 3 was THE best) 4, I should say just once. my computer sucks. And I DO expect next Splinter Cell because it's by montreal (If I know right). Ps. English isn't my native language. sorry but I'm TERRIBLE at it. But nothing you can do. HAHA |
