I don't see why being a spy would rule out close quarters combat...
I never had any trouble getting close to enemies in the original titles, won't have any difficulty getting close to them in ConViction. Only difference is, at least you're not repeating an elbow strike three times in a row while they spin around dizzily in this one. |

Well maybe not but Splinter Cell isnt about being James Bond or the Spy in a tuxedo that shoots everybody and fights everyone and nothing happens to him and also im not talking about multiplayer here im refering to single player and maybe coop. Maybe the spinning should be done in a different way though and its easier to kill a merc the stealthy way but thats just me some other people find it easier to throw smoke and grab the guy.

I'm talking about single player too. Heck, I don't even touch multiplayer. I mean, I would, but we can't get broadband connection where I live so no Xbox Live...
What I was referring to was the original Splinter Cell. Hit them with your elbow once and they sway around dizzily, hit them twice and they knock out. EDIT: And the whole James Bond thing, Sam is basically invincible in all titles. In the first few, it's only a matter of acquiring more health kits and you can be shot dozens of times, which is entirely unrealistic, and the next titles are even more unrealistic, just stop getting hurt and wait a few seconds and the damage magically disappears. You can get shot infinite times as long as you're good at sitting around and waiting to heal. Nothing ever happens to him, and ConViction will be no different. |

maybe you should hit them from behind that way it only takes one time to knock them out and also if ConViction turns out to be the way it is after some time the guards will eventually call Agents that know how to take down Sam so its not that easy as you may think. Appearances decieve....

Actually I never hit from the front. I always sneak around from behind and grab them, then knock them out.
I was just using the one two three strikes you're out as an example of how unrealistic it's capable of being at times. |

Well then use your gadgets or dont knock out everyone its not necessary to kill or knock out everyone you can creat diversions and move away from that area without nobody noticing.

I'm on the verge of OCD with knocking people out. I have to have everyone knocked out with six bodies lying in a dark corner before I move on to the next area. They all have to be in the same corner too, not just lying all over the place like a bomb went off. It's extremely weird.
And I also have another OCD thing about conserving ammo and gadgets because "I'll probably need it later." But later never comes. Anyway, getting a little off-topic... |

I can relate to an OCD thing. Mine's "Don't touch anyone. Don't break anything. Leave everything as you found it. You were never here." |

I like to do that too, but I usually get caught and shot when I try it.

I have a mean streak when it comes to guards. I'll break them down with psychological warfare. You know, constant whistling, moving at just barely audible speed, throwing cans and bottles. Then I smack 'em. Vode An. |

Find a guard in the middle of a square room and launch two sticky cams on either side, make one of them do the clicking noise, then switch to the other and do the same thing, and then just start switching back and forth and harass him to death.
After spinning around a hundred times, his code will eventually glitch out and he'll explode, and then a portal to Hyrule will open up over his dead body |

I am the exact same way. I need to have all the guards knocked out and always be almost fully equipped almost the full way through the mission. I like to knock everyone out because sometimes I miss something and need to go back and I would like to do it quickly and not have to worry about a bunch of guards trying to shoot me down. A great example is in CT on the lighthouse mission or the ship mission (level name escapes me at the moment) when you gottan check those weapon crates. Almost everytime I play, I end up missing, at least, one of them and have to go back and find it! Keeping really well equipped through the whole mission is kinda silly and sort of defeats the purpose of having all those cool gadgets but you never know when you are gonna need them so if there is another way I can knock/kill a gaurd that will save my gadgets, I take it. |

lol a lot Seriously though, I know I brought it up before, and its old news already, but the video by the message is fantastic!! I used to always get kind of nervous when sneaking around the guards because you never know which way they will turn so I always grab them ASAP. Also like above, I used to knock as many out as possible so that I could run around looking for the bonus objectives if I missed one. I really dig the way he just hangs on their shoulder the whole time and predicts the way they're going to turn. Also the way he dealt with Grinko and his goons was just...... I'm almost tempted to try and make a Chaos Theory version of the "perfect game". I've recently started doing levels without saving and going for minimum knock outs As for gadgets in this new game, I think it will probably be more "trick" orientated, rather than gadget dominated. It will be simple things like causing minor explosions with household products and throwing rocks through windows. Although I have a strong suspicion that there will be a mobile device that activates the alarm in cars available on the black market. ---------------- Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the Shadows...... Maybe a bit of both. You might no longer have NSA issued high-tech equipment, but you might get what you need at the black market or from other "sources". Hmmm...interesting idea! Ya, but I just get the feeling that because of the whole "fugitive" aspect, Sam isn't going to have his SC-20K so any of the specific launchables he had for that will be gone I reckon, which was the majority of the "gadgets" he had. I'm not including grenades etc in this obviously.
Whats the point in having sticky shockers when he's going to be able to freely engage people in hand to hand combat? The whole point was to quietly disable someone so that they wouldn't shoot you in CQC, but it seems no one wants to shoot Sam at the moment as he has to be brought to justice (I'm assuming this is why the guards are throwing themselves at Sam like extras in a bad kung fu movie?). There could possibly be small surveillance cameras that he can lay on tables/in hotdogs so that he can view an area without having to be in the locality. They'll cost around €800 dollars though so don't forget to pick it back up before you blow up the hotdog stand! This message has been edited. Unless they've changed their plan, that's correct. EDIT: Argh...damn...wrong post selected. Sig / Avatar Guide | Terms of Use | My Blog | Patches/Drivers/Maps | Vth_F | W[N]M - In loving memorial to my father Wilfried Geissler - † 6th of October 2007 - |

I’d like to see a more subtle and improvised approach to equipment. Using things found in the environment more. I also like ShadowFox’s device that sets off car alarms, but Sam could just as easily shoot out a window or throw a rock at it for the same effect. I remember the car alarms with external motion sensors that used to say “Protected by ......! Stand Back!” That would make a good trap for Sam while sneaking around in a darkened car park, but it could also be used as a good distraction for guards. He could also have a phone or pda that can bluejack other characters mobile phones, causing them to ring that they have a message. That might be good for a quick distraction (and have the added benefit of NOKIA’s in-game advertising actually making sense).
As for the old favorites, the nightvision goggles are one of the trademarks of the franchise, so I can’t imagine Sam not having them at some point. Maybe less sophisticated ones, like what we can really go out and buy, without thermal or emf vision. Without the SC-20k launcher, lobbing tear gas and smoke grenades (both I’ve seen at the occasional gun show) would make sense, though it would start to feel too much like R6 after awhile. |

I thought that was already mentioned as something you'll be able to use, in a trailer. I hope they don't do away with flashbangs and smoke grenades, so you could have immediate cover in case of emergency. And of all gadgets, these would seem to be the easiest to obtain so it's not like they would be excluded because a fugitive with flashbangs would be unrealistic. Especially for Sam, with his twenty years of experience and knowledge of where to get this stuff. I guess it would be kinda hard to make a true crowd reaction to those kinds of things though. Flashbangs, yeah, lots of screaming and running away, but I guess a real crowd watching a smoke grenade go off in the middle of a street would probably just... stare at it. As long as I don't hear gunfire or cops yelling for someone to put their hands up, I'd probably just stare too lol if I saw a smoke grenade going off. |

well i would like to see a chaff grenade. I remember there was one in one of the previous games but they disabled electronics. I want proper ones that disable guns. It would be a classic watching guards aiming their guns at you and then pulling the trigger and teir guns not working.!!
IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED TRY POLITICS! |
