Benson's work was OK, if a little bombastic. While the first person chapters were good, it takes you out of the narrative, IMO. I prefer the Blackwood books because the missions/skills/story are a little more down to Earth. Plus he's got a military background himself, which adds credibility. Unfortunately, it looks more like the Conviction game images will serve as the cover art, which is a shame because I like Horn's CG art. |

The new book came out today (SC: Conviction), and so far it's pretty interesting.
BIG SPOILER ALERT In the first chapter, Sam reminisces about how his life went from one of a secret agent, to one of a disavowed merc...and that he betrayed and murdered his old friend Lambert. Kind of makes you wonder if the book now follows the same video game canon. Also, the end of the book features a couple previews chapter from the next book (SC:Endgame), and suggests that book will follow the same storyline as this book, but from a new character's view...some 3E agent called Ben Hansen. Maybe Ubi is setting this guy up to be the new splinter cell for any future games??? END SPOILER It's a shame they didn't get Greg Horn to do the cover art again, but instead went with a game CG pic. |

Was there a film of SC? I'm sure I remember seeing a trailer or something on my old copy of Chaos Theory.
If there isn't it would be cool to see one or even something similar to the new Assassin's Creed film. |

There was one in the works, but Paramount lost control and Dreamworks had a go but gave up and now it's scrapped. Good thing. Like the games ruining the games wasn't enough. |

On the contrary: http://www.themovieinsider.com...nter-cell-the-movie/
But I won’t say this is reliable, it simply is... |

That's just a useless profile page probably set up years ago.
In fact, since it branches off of "2010" movies, and still has Peter Berg involved (who is currently working on a live-action "Battleship" movie...that's right, as in "You sunk my..."). Any movie website is gonna have this. They should just make an anime/CGI direct-to-video film ala Final Fantasy, Dead Space, or the new Halo anime. |

Or just put their heads together to make the games better.
Would you want to watch a movie of a game (that isn't as good... games are better then movies anyway) or play the next instalment in the game series... I vote game. SC6, SC7, SC8, SC9, BRING'EM ON. SC the movie, probably hire it... and probably won't like it. |

I have had Splinter Cell Fallout ever since it came out, but I haven't read any of it yet

I think a pretty interesting film concept would be like a horror film, in the perspective of the guards. Maybe like being stalked by some psychotic/sadistic Splinter Cell.

Fallout is a pretty good book, and one you can read without having read the previous ones. Chernobyl, long-lost relatives, white girl-slavery, spelunking...it's got it all!!! |

i got the new convictoin book today! it's great. (i've only been through the first 3 chaps), but i'm lovin it. lol

Did I imagine the trailer I saw on my copy f Chaos Theory??
Think I might have to go up into the loft and dig it out. |

mrpezzer...there was a teaser trailer for a "possible" SC movie, but it was nothing but a silouette with goggles...movie studios do that all the time to get investors to hand over money. Any SC movie is in development hell.
stealthjim, I agree that the new book is very good. I'm only halfway through myself, but now it's really getting interesting (those first few chapters were a little heavy with the whole "Sam getting chased" thing, IMO). However, if the new book next month follows the 3E team chasing Sam, it should be interesting to see the chase from their perspective. |

Ok, thanks so much for reminding me about the book guys
Is it following exactly with the game (because the cover being CG like the video game suggests it is) or is it like the others SC, SC Operation barracuda, Fallout, and checkmate..where it follows roughly with conviction or does it go right from the game??? (If so I don't want to spoil the game's story) Private message me if you can. Thanks a lot. "I will find who killed sarah. If it was you I will hunt you down. You can run...and maybe you can hide.........but I can be INVISIBLE" -Fisher XBL GAMERTAG: MANGAJEDI |

I doesn't seem to be just a novelization of the game; that's the only reason I'm reading it. I want to keep the game as surprising as possible.
But then again, I haven't finished the book, nor played the game... |

Finished it today, and I still have no idea how it relates to the game. LoL
My initial thoughts (spoilers, duh): Conviction Book Sam seems much more like the old Sam than Conviction Game Sam. Ben's not well defined enough yet for me to say whether I really like him or not, or whether I'd consider him a suitable replacement for Sam (not that I'm certain they'll be going that route). Their names do have the same number of letters in them, though...suspicious. Anyway, I liked the locales, the emphasis on stealth in the missions, and the low body count. Also, while Sam did say that he'd killed Lambert, I still don't buy it. If Lambert needed to "die" to accomplish the mission, okay, but that doesn't mean he's actually dead. Plus, I find it very hard to believe that Grim would have anything to do with Sam (let alone help him) if he'd actually done it. It seems a silly way to explain what when on in DA, though... ------- "Tonight's forecast...dark." |

Haven't finished it yet, mangajedi, but it isn't a game novelization... it has it's own story like the books. It does however BIG SPOILERfollow Sam as a fugitive and Lambert-killer on what appears to be a non-official, Grim-assisted National Security job!!!END SPOILER.
An as for CoastalGirl's comments: BIG SPOILERsince the next book, ENDGAME, will follow Ben's team through this same story, maybe we'll get a better sense of him as a character.END SPOILER. Jusr don't use him as a Sam replacement! |

Im 75% done with the book and to be honest....im having to force myself to finish it. Its just repetitive and, to me at least, seems largely irrelevant. Its just a bunch of scenic filler with interspersed but tensionless infiltration.

I've finished the book, and found it to be simply OK. I guess I was expecting more of a reveal in the end (double-cross, people back rom the dead, etc.), butit kind of just wrapped itself up with a happy ending. Perhaps the next Endgame book will reveal more.
As for CoastalGirl's comment: SPOILERperhaps when they say he had to kill Lambert, it was a ruse to get that Kovacs guy off their back...maybe his death was faked and he's underground??? They never really commit to his death as a certainty, more of a sidenote. Whenever they mention it, it's always to reference the whole "arms auction" story, and not any remorse from Sam.END SPOILER |
