Isn't Essentials non-canonical? I heard it was, but I can't reference a source other than Wikipedia. Take it or leave it, they're reliable in my opinion.

I say he lives. Lambert is his friend, and Sam is a good guy, for example the pilots you can rescue in Chaos Theory. "Medals don't help me sleep at night."

Even if you go for a headshot in the 360 version, he still lives.

Also, the Hero achievement for Xbox 360 requires you to "get the best ending," which in turn requires you to play it clean. Obviously, if Ubisoft says that's the best ending, they're not going to turn around and make the worst ending canonical.

I thought it was said non canon but anyways Lambert doesnt die in the next gen version it doesnt matter if you shoot him or not and if they use the current gen version Sam wouldnt be able to clear his name since he killed a government agent.

The real question is: Are videogames in general canonical? Smile

Look at Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series or Square's Final Fantasy series - although both have always been very successful, none of them seems canonical. Smile

Zelda is a canonical disaster...

I once read a blog from a person trying to explain the storyline of all Zelda titles from Gameboy to Wii to DS, all the while people were trying to get him to understand that Miyamoto himself has said that the Zelda franchise is oriented around individual fun games with no relation or connection in story, and that none of the Links in each title are even the same Link. Needless to say, by the time this guy made sense to himself of the overall plot, it looked like a bomb had gone off in the middle of the page and messed up a Winnie the Pooh fairytale.

Anyway, to answer your simple question with a very complicated answer, games are only canonical if the writers and developers want them to be, lol. In the case of Halo, where there are no PSP titles to confuse people and no different versions for Wii and PS3 to make even less sense of it all, yes, the games are canonical.

And in the case of games like Splinter Cell where there are different console versions, no.

My personal opinion is that multiple storylines are the worst idea you can come up with for a game that needs to be canonical. The terrorist players are going to say Lambert is dead, the superspy players are going to say Lambert lives, and technically, they are both right, because it's a mess. And if that's not making a mess enough as it is, you've got people who want Xbox version to be canonical because 360 version apparently is a let down.

Complicated answers, poo. =p

I want the 360 versions ending to be canon because if not then Lambert would be dead and thats what I really dont want and also Lambert doesnt die it doesnt matter if you shoot him or not apparently if you do he survives probably he just stays on the floor bleeding.

I think that when it's advertised as a series (DA->E->C) it should have made sense. After all, the writers make up the story, so they have that power. But obviously, they changed their plans for unknown reasons.

Hopefully we won't figure out soon that Splinter Cell is like Zelda, where none of the Sams are even the same Sam...

I would rather have that than SCC in its 'current' form.

Well, as long as Sam doesn't have an evil twin from a parallel universe... Big Grin

You know that glitch code on the gadgets thread I posted?

You never know, it could happen... maybe.

Maybe SvM took advantage of that code and so that's where they went, to Hyrule.

And where is that idea I had about the night vision being goggle beings from another planet?

What'd'ya say, think I have a basic storyline here for the next greatest game? Veryhappy

Yeah, but Splinter Cell is a rare breed of development processes. Halo was developed by the same team all the way through, thus everything is in agreeance, everything makes sense, you don't have anyone arguing about Master Chief's real name, real height, real gender, or anything because the facts don't oppose each other.

Montreal should have hogged Splinter Cell to itself and not let anyone else touch it. Then this would have truly been the perfect franchise. Sure, it would've taken years longer per game, but forget speed. It's just the same as rushing titles, only on a completely new level.
