Splinter Cell: Conviction

Three years in development - a still mysteriously under lock and key

It's been a long time since we last sat down in front of Splinter Cell Conviction; so long, in fact, we're beginning to wonder if we really saw it at all. Did we really see Sam choking policemen, battering terrorists with chairs and putting foes through tables? Was it actually a mirage? Does Sam really have a beard now?

Yes, we did and yes, he does. With every delay a fresh torture, we've been kept waiting an age to get our hands on Sam's latest mission, and are instead left to reminisce about what we saw on our visit to Montreal last June.

Two years on from Double Agent and Third Echelon has become a bloated beast, making them the absolute last people to call when Sam's former team-mate Anna Grimsdottir is threatened - leaving it to the man Fisher once again to fix it all; this time in daylight.

Any suggestions that the mixed reviews for Assassin's Creed might have contributed to the delay of Conviction are unfounded; the delay has been on the cards for a while and Ubisoft factored the bump into their November investors' report. So what is the deal?

Middle rages
Clearly a lot of problems need ironing out, but it's safe to assume that some Assassin's Creed staff have been shifted over to Sam's game, so we'll start to see their expertise put to work on a whole new brand of social stealth, and smarter NPCs wandering around the world.

And just because the various grumbles about Assassin's Creed didn't directly delay the game, don't think Ubisoft aren't paying attention. Even back in April, the Conviction team were focused on making a hugely open-ended game, and since the number one Assassin's gripe regarded the linearity of Altair's missions, we'd expect them to re-double their efforts to make every mission a whole lot more open than Creed. You probably shouldn't expect Sam to go wall-running though - the fifty year-old's feet are planted firmly on the ground.

When last we saw it, Conviction was the most ambitious game we had ever seen. Even nine months on, that remains the case. With the old Chaos Theory team working alongside the best Ubisoft has to offer, if it doesn't deliver in the most epic manner possible, we'll consider it a COMPLETE failure. Oh yes

Assasins Creed Team helping out sounds good, I just hope that the fighting system is realistic and not repetetive as AC, even though it was still fun.

That's hardly "new info". It's just a filler that's trying to hide the fact that they have nothing new.

It's a joke! When you look at me like that, it's a joke.

Horrible. Horrible as heck.

I mean Why they just can't named it Assasins Creed 2: Sam's Conviction?

If this is Splinter cell, Then I have no idea what Assassins creed 3 holds behind it's sleeves.

'My name is Sam Fisher...And I am Spl...err, Assassin'

Because it's:
  • a different concept
  • a different producer
  • a different storyline
  • a different soundtrack
  • with different characters
  • with different organizations
  • a different creative director
  • different lead AI programmer
  • a different team
  • in a different timeline
  • a different gameplay
  • on a different graphics engine
  • in a different genre
  • with different voice actors
  • a TOM CLANCY game
Hey, don't look at me like that - you asked! Wink2

Gee, I'd even bet the sandwiches they're consuming aren't the same, but then again that's the only thing I can't be sure about! Big Grin

Bribe a beggar with some leftover candybar to have him distract sweeping police, who're hunting down Sam.

I do hope those wacky fun loving lepers are back. They have this hilarious tenancy to shove you aside with all their retard strength and send you flying ye oldie moshpit style. It's hilarious! Veryhappy

They were so annoying, especially when I was trying to do one of the side missions where you had to silently kill like 4 people. For some reason there was like 5 of these beggars around when I am trying to sneak behind these enemies of mines. Everytime they push you, guards go on alert and it pisses you off. Mad

No beggars.

Exactly.

They bugged me so much in the end I killed them on sight. I actually killed myself at least twice doing that - couldn't heal fast enough... Tongue

Hey, sorry for the mix up. I just did not see it here. And it may not be new to some of you, but there are others who did not even know.

Anyways, I'm kinda iffy right now that Montreal can't handle this game on their own. And the fact they are bringing in another team baffles me.

This further proves why Shanghai screwed this series up....I dont like when alot of people try to fix one good thing. It gets screwed up and over 10 times, kinda like the US.

and they have different gay ass hoods to put on their heads for the same gay ass gameplay.I really hate this concept and can't state that enough.

Yes, I heard tell of an exciting feature whereby Sam will be able to blend with groups of beggars when he's being chased by the police. He'll be able to walk aimlessly completely invisible to others within these groups of beggars for as long as he likes. Sounds like fun to me.
