I didn't know Lockdown was an attempted hybrid. I thought (along with many video game critics and gamers) that the game was just a piss poor effort to bring a PC series to the consoles. Ubisoft had been doing that with every Rainbow Six for quite a few years by then... Wasn't that what Double Agent was, a piss poor effort? An upcoming novel by me. Thanks Melonie for the sig! |
||||
|
Yes, it was. But Lockdown wasn't an attempt to bring it to the consoles, they'd already done it with R63. It was more of an attempt to broaden the target audience as it was previously too complex for the average console player. So they brought in some arcade elements. Yes, I would call it a hybrid.
It's a joke! When you look at me like that, it's a joke. |

Ugh... Lockdown. R6 3 was bad enough on the X-Box. I bought it only to see that they hadn't bothered to port the planning aspects of the game, which was one of the things that made R6 so good on PC. They really thought that R63 was too complex for the average console gamer? Oh dear... |
||||
|
Well, I see no other reason to remove the planning feature, which as you pointed out, is what set Rainbow Six apart. To me, nothing in that game could beat the feeling of finishing a mission without casualties - without even playing it. If the AI could do that for you, you knew you had made a pretty damn good plan. It's a joke! When you look at me like that, it's a joke. |

Lockdown was my first R6 game ever... after that, i put my hands on Raven Shield, and i was happyly surprised... so just pretend SCDA to be some sort of Lockdown.... I want to be surprised by SCC...

I don't think the 6th game should be a 'mix of everything'; if history of video gaming has taught us anything, it's that hybrids fail. Remember when Rainbow Six tried to mix 'tactical' and 'arcade' shooters? That unfortunate accident was called Lockdown. Remember when Splinter Cell tried to use the light/darkness stealth mechanic in Kinshasa/DA? While some liked the mission/game, it was hardly tactical, mostly just luck whether you got caught or not. Games should specialise. I don't want to see a sports game where you can choose for your player to actually be an undercover government agent, I'd rather have two specialised games that do what they do well than a mix that tries to do everything in a mediocre way. seriously dude why do u have an issue with DA its a good game i played it about 4 times twice on easy once on norm and once on hard its not a bad game and for knife_x or whatever your name is, pandora tommorow also is a great game better that SC:Stealth action Redifined and SC:Chaos Theory not better than DA i bet you played the last gen version |

I just hope they've make a proper transition from DA to C, I mean, after all that happend,(Sarah dead, Sam's NOC, Lambert is 'out of the picture', Sam on the run, etc. ) they cant just let Sam back into 3rd Echelon?
Apparently they do, so I wonder HOW... and to be honest... i don't think Sam's gonna survive, because a recent interview with Danny Lepage said: “I finally have the three pieces of my googles!” (I'm pretty sure he meant goggles. But for fans like me,that have followed Splinter Cell from the beginning, this is a serious question. Will Sam Fisher wear his famous headgear ever again? “That’s classified.” ‘’Conviction is so different, you wonder what makes UbiSoft think this should even be called a sequel to the critically acclaimed and groundbreaking series.’’ – IGN.com ‘’2008 could be a make or break year for the venerable Sam Fisher.’’ – Next-gen.biz ‘’The end of Splinter Cell?’’ and ‘’Only the name remembers us to the series of the olden times.’’ – Power Unlimited |

Woah, calm down. I was stating my opinion, what's wrong with that? I have every right to say that I don't like DA, especially when I give reasons why I didn't like it. To come along, tell me to stop giving my opinion then giving yours like its the word of God is just stupid. The general concensus (from most of the posters here that I have seen) seems to be that SC1 and CT were the two superior games, while DA360 and PT were not as good. It would be fair enough if you had said "My opinion is that PT is a great game..." etc but you said your post with such an air of finality that it comes across badly. It's a joke! When you look at me like that, it's a joke. |

It is well understood already that there has always been 2 SC titles under production simultaneously.
The are stacked to that each has 2 years of development, and one is released every year. Then of course, there are the delays which add another 6 months or so... xfire:: goodkebab :: :: |

Sometimes people are intimidated whenever a game gives them lots of options. For a person well acquainted with war games, the planning stage and the giving out of several orders at once was a blessing, while to the casual gamer it may have been seen as "101 ways to screw up". Then again, there are some people who are so stupid they don't bother reading the instruction booklet first. My cousin is such a person. An upcoming novel by me. Thanks Melonie for the sig! |
||||
|
Hey, I'm one of those people! There's very few games where you actually need to read the instruction book. Most good ones bring you up to speed in game, with a tutorial or similar. Generally I only read the booklets for the background detail they sometimes put into them. Ah, and for flight simulators, always for those. |

*knowing this thread has already become off-topic*
I suppose that's true and all. Thing is, I think it's best to know everything before you play the game. Cuts away frustration at the start of a game because you don't know how to jump or shoot or whatnot and you have to wait for a narration bubble to appear telling you what to do. An upcoming novel by me. Thanks Melonie for the sig! |

Not a single bad word about instruction manuals... When I first played Rayman 3 (bad example) I had more fun reading the manual than playing the game... especially the comments were way to funny... way offtopic... ______________________ What you read in my posts and what I am trying to tell you. hey when i heard that this game was a little different with no spys or mercs, i got nervous really fast. doesnt that make this one a completley different game? as kewl as this idea still sounds im a huge huge fan of SP Double agent and would like this to keep on keepin on. i think one of the greatest games ever is ghost recon sumit strike and instead of making it better in my opinion, they just completly made a new game with Advanced war fighter. again this is my opinion but does anybody else feel the same at all?

i hope Chinese ppl knows how to read english otherwise they aren't gonna understang u they are developing the sixth game for sure so even though ubisoft sent producers and ppl from montreal, still they are not going to read it. *sorry for my english |

I got two things to say.
1- the game is going to be great even if you say " dude i prefered the other splinter cells, i hate this game" and others will say " i love SC, im a true SC fan and i love thys game even with all the **** taths in it". 2- I dont mind the multiplayer be diferent, becouse i like variety and i wont give a punch on my monitor or screen becuse it was a total rippof. I only ask one thing if you radicly change SC MP please dont close the SCCT multiplayer PC servers, if you want to play Spy vs Mercs buy SCCT, it´s like 15 bucks |

It may be a coninutation of the story, and may seem like the only way it could be ended, but how will conviction end it, what is actually going on in Conviction, and the biggest problem in the game is although the game is a continuation of the story, the problem IS the story. It was completely destroyed when DA came into the series, and SCE only made it worse. And now they're making ANOTHER one! I didnt think it could have gotten any worse, but I guess it can now that SCC is coming out... |
