some new info would really be nice, and it is really hard to keep that attitude. Is there any knowledge of when even a tidbit of information will surface?

I guess thats the good thing about keeping your expectations low, I was really psyched about conviction as well until I heard that it was supposed to be changed so drastically. Now I am not so anxious for the release date. Some new info to what they have been doing all this time would be nice, I am curious to see what they will finally decide to do with Conviction.

I wish the Assassin's Creed crowd had listened to that nugget of advice

Me too. That was a very shallow game. The story seemed to be way more involved than the game play. The game play was repetitive and the story was very predictable and the ending was horrid. The game over all was too short. The only good thing is the detail that was in the graphics, it was a very good looking game but also very shallow.

Could someone translate that to Chinese? So I can send it to the Lead QA-monkey at Ubi Shanghai.

Far enough, Smith, but you have to realize that it's hard to get hyped up about a game when there are no previews or advertisments whatsoever. Indifferent

An upcoming novel by me.
Thanks Melonie for the sig!

In the mean time, you can learn to spell ("siked"?). That's the upside of your post. ;-)

Are you sure you "need" hype though? Assassin's Creed had mountains of hype behind it, they promised the world in a box... turns out it was a waste of $60 ... are you sure ConViction needs hype.. or to actually be a good game with depth?

That hype AC got was sure worth it, it sold more than Bioshock in 2 weeks. Or in other words just sold over 1.5 million copies in 2 weeks.

Worth it to who? I thought it was shallow and would be a waste of $60. It was a waste of $8 I spent renting the thing.

I already know a lot of people that loved the game, plus a game wouldnt suck that bad if it sells that fast. I didnt say 1.5 million rents, these are buying. Its a love it or hate it game, you can tell from the reviews. Scores of 5/5 from some, and others give it average around an 8.0-8.9.

8.0-8.9 is really mediocre. Its not really worth buying a game unless it at least gets over a 9.

No...I guess I don't really need hype since I'm already a fan who knows the game is in production. The developers and publishers however, need to reach out to the "newcomers" they want so badly to attract. And how do you do that? Previews, interviews, commercials, demos at E3 and the like.
But you're right about one thing: Too much hype will end in dissappointment. I'm sure I don't have to remind you guys about Killzone, the so-called "Halo Killer" that didn't even tickle the Bungie series let alone kill it. And the dissappointment resulted in poor/mediocre reviews that left quite a bad taste in people's mouths.
But if you have no hype at all, then the game just flies under the radar. I'm sure you guys remember Ico? I didn't even know the game existed before I saw it on the shelves. And because I knew next to nothing about it, I didn't pick it up. My loss, it turned out to be a great game that many missed out on.
