...no one rides a horse except Altair so running from the guards is a lot easier than doing social stealth and going slower than a snail...

There should have been other people on horses to come chase/attack you.

for snake, it's as simple as it gets...

a white half-circle with a few vertical stripes and a little bit messy or wavy at the bottom... for your style of drawing, it should go past his chin.
it would make him look older.
