try going to the Control Panel, and there should be a button for Game Controllers. Then just pick your controller from the list and click Configure...

Thanks for the reply...I did go to Cont.Panel and the controller doesn't appear. Makes me wonder if something is wrong.

when you connect the xbox pad to the PC does it come up in the bottom right that it is installing new hardware or has detected new hardware? and time for the stupid question did you press the big silver X button till the button lights up and controller turns on?

First time I plugged it in it showed up as new hardware found, yet the "wizard" could not find any drivers, kept looking for a disc, which I did not get..since then, rebooting, etc, it doesn't show up at all...nor does it in the CP options.

I don't know if this will help but if you are running XP SP2 you need to get a driver for your Xbox controller to work. When I was running XP SP2 I had to download the driver for it to work. Just Goggle to find a driver. When I installed Vista 64 and plugged in my Xbox controller it loaded the driver automatically.

I forgot where, but there is a website that has the drivers for download. Like Dean said, google it.
