I "shopped" myself into an existing production art piece...

I've been working on this freaking thing, on and off, for almost a year now. I had one guy make the armor pieces and another ENORMOUSLY talented guy did all the leather work for me.

If you zoom into the little "medallion" on the brown bag here, there's a little cameo of a superhero involved. :lol It's a squished penny from our local Six Flags Superman Ride of Steel roller-coaster. Big Grin

I made all the weapons and after dealing with a nightmarish seamstress, I finally gave up and wound up altering all of the fabric parts myself.

I've got more pictures HEREalong with a couple of videos of the hidden blade at work.

I still need to distress everything, to make it look more beat up, as well as darken the gloves. They're a good quality suede leather that already have baseball glove oil on them. I don't know if anything will darken them now, since that's on there.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad you appreciate it. Sometimes you never know how people will react to seeing an adult in costume! Veryhappy But I've gotten into the whole Dragon Con thing with Batman, Sam Fisher and now Altair.

You can see some of my Splinter Cell photos HERE.

The first things that got made, were the two gauntlets. I needed the left one, so that I could use that size and have a friend of mine draw out the designs, scan into his computer and laser engrave into the plastic sheet material, to make all 11 armor parts, but of course he needed the gauntlet for scale.

Then after that, my leather guy got into the rest of it. Slowly, but surely.

During all of that, I was busy making the knives and short sword and making resin copies of them and selling them on Ebay, to help pay for the rest of the costume. I also altered an existing sword and scabbard, to resemble Altair's.

Only just this week, did I finally finish up the decorative ribbon that goes around either shoulder. THAT was a pain in the a$$, because I needed to "warp' it into the shape necessary to go around the already made tunic. And a straight segment wouldn't work, without it being all goofy and crinkled up.

But... It eventually all came together.

If any of you guys live near Atlanta and want to go to Dragon Con... I'll be there.

I can't wait for the parade. Last year I was running around like a nut, as Sam Fisher, running through all the other genres, from back to front and then back through the parade to the end and then back up to the front.

Running while crouched over and going uphill... Talk about exhausting!

But, anything to stay in character.

Wow. I'm glad you all like it so much. To tell you the truth, to make it accurately, is a total whopping pain in the a$$. There's just no way in hell, anyone's capable of moving around like Altair does in the game, and having one part of the getup pull towards one side or down or pop off or even the hood moving to cover your face.

And I've made mine as accurately as possible. It's not simply Velcroed on and held in place with glue... It's all the real thing. But I DO have some Velcro holding down the "flaps" of the hood, because it just shifts all over kingdom come.

It's like Indy's Hat. Big Grin Indiana Jones can keep his hat on, on screen, but not in real life.

The leather work cost a bit over $1000 and the armor pieces cost me $650.00. But that's because the guy who did it for me, had to spend a lot of time drawing them out in high detail, so that he could scan them into his PC cleanly and without all the pixel distortions that were in the art book.

All-in-all, I'd say that this costume cost about 2 1/2 G's... Only because I had professionals do the high end work. I mean, I CAN do this stuff... But to take the time, learn through experience, trial and error and still not pull off something as good as I wanted it... I'm better off asking someone else to do it for me, go to work and make the money to have the pros do it right.

Thanks again guys.

Well, it was actually closer to $2250.00.

Hey... I don't fu*k around. Too Happy I wanted an ACCURATE costume. And I'm pretty much there, I think.

The only thing that's not accurate, are the plastic armor pieces. Steel was a lot. Plastic was cheaper.
