I've had the game for a few weeks, it crashes after around 30 minutes of play or less, resulting in blue artifacts, and a BSOD around 50% of the time, the other times it requires a hard reboot.

I had hoped the patch might resolve this issue, as I raid WoW 4 hours a night, have no problem, have played through Crysis, UT3, etc. without any trouble. Alas this was not the case and I'm still crashing.

Maybe you should try the latest driver update from Nvidia :- Geforce Release 175.16

And when you've done that, go to the Microsoft update site and install Vista Service Pack 1
You could also try lowering the clock speed of your video card and video ram, as other users with similar problems have reported success doing this.

I've monitored the temps while playing...they never go above 65-66 degrees C, but I guess that's worth a try, nonsensical as it may be.

65 is high. Mine never goes above forty

65C is actually quite cool for any 8000 series card; 40's is normally only achievable through water cooling. Seeing how most cards can go 90C or higher before artifacts/failure and the core itself is rated to be able to go to around 120C, I don't really see how it could be an issue...

Anyhow, updated drivers, underclocked my card by around 75mhz core and 200 mhz memory, and seems to work ok. Played for around 2 hours, no crashes.

It should probably be said that ANY 8800 card needs to be underclocked...I read numerous threads elsewhere where people complained of my problem, and the commonaility seemed to be the gfx card.

The temperature problem isn't usually the GPU core itself, it's usually the ram chips on the card if they don't have adequate cooling.

Oh oh oh, I know how to fix this. Go to bestbuy, and buy a PS3 or an Xbox360 along with the game "Assassin's Creed" for the corresponding system you purchase.

Well I'm just saying cause I played it alright on the 360 all the way through. But I respect all ya computer know-hows, cause when it comes to things liek that, I'm a complete noob.

As far as I'm aware the console versions of the game have more bugs in them than a listed building

That is interesting.. I have 8800GT, and I have YET to have the game crash.

I didn't say it was a guaranteed thing, just that I've seen a number of threads now by people using the 8800 that have reported the same, or similar issues. Be glad you're not one of them
