I've always been interested in history, but usually The Middle Ages, and almost always on the Europeans. Assassins Creed really got me into the Middle Eastern areas in that time, and with the announcement of AC2, the Renaissance was a pretty awesome place for me to look into while I am waiting in eager anticipation for the game.

True, but not the books they're talking about here. Alamut seems like a great read!

I can answer that. In the AC1 artbook, there's a paragraph by Jade Raymond explaining why they chose William instead of Conrad.

According to her, the developers originally wanted to stick Conrad in Acre, but found out though he was killed mysteriously, it wasn't in 1191. They didn't want you killing a guy who, according to history, didn't die that year.

They found out, however, that William happened to be in Acre at that time. So, it was William that got the sharp end of the hidden blade instead. Hope that clears it up.

And yes, some books are interesting to read, some are just snore-fests. It depends on content, structure and phrasing I guess. And also your interest in the subject.

Oh and btw, what is "Alamut"?

The book that inspired the creation of Assassin's Creed.

It even says it in the blurb, I'll read it once I finish my current book (nearly finished).

EDIT:

This masterpiece, admired enough to be translated into nineteen languages, a bestseller throughout Western Europe, and an inspiration for videogames ("The Secrets of Alamut" and the forthcoming "Assassin's Creed") has never had its moment in English.

Hey, even video games can be boring sometimes. Wink

Maybe you could try reading a history book Assassin's Creed style. Pretend you're actually one of the people being written about and what it'd be like to be that person. Smile

Hey, that actually sounds kinda fun. I wanna go try that now. >.>

Damn I want that book!

Bac on topic; Yeah, AC has definitely gotten me more interested in the Renaissance and the Crusades. Yup, I've always been interested in the Renaissance and the Crusades. More the Renaissance though.
I've always wanted to go to Italy. But now I really wanna go there.

I wish there was a museum about the Assassin's and Templars...

I've nearly finished reading a book called Assassins: Holy Killers of Islam (by Edward Burman). It's a very detailed history of the Nizari Ismai'li (Hashshashin), including their beliefs and religion. There's also a fair bit about the Templars as well. And apparently the Assassin's uniform was white trimmed with red, similar to Altair's outfit.
