Sometimes I have this problem in the FMB. When I press Enter to go into 3D mode the view will not rotate right and left when I move the mouse right and left. Usually it rotates fine, but about 20% of the time, it is locked and won't let me rotate with the mouse.

I'm not sure, but this may occur only after I have been flying. To fix this, I exit the game, and restart it, then go straight into the FMB and the view rotation works fine.

When it gets locked like this it does not matter if I have an object selected or not, in both cases the view simply will not rotation, so I have to restart the game. But I have noticed that when it's locked, I 'can' rotation the 'view' and/or object using the numpad keys. If no object is selected only the view rotates with the numpad keypresses. If an object is selected the view rotates with the object.

I'm guessing that there is a key that turns this view lock on and off, and maybe when I'm playing some key I am sending turns it on. Just a wild guess, but I cannot figure it out. I asked Flying Nutcase and he had not heard of this problem, so I thought I would ask for help here. It is just annoying.

I have the same problem at times. I don't that it's an inadvertent keypress but some kind of game bug.

Yea, Nutcase seemed to think it might be a bug as well.

What kind of video card do you have? I have an old ATI Radeon 9700 128meg.
