Good day everyone, I would like to know what great Desert map is available to download and use for a "Quick Mission". I need to use it to take some cool screenshots of some skins I made recently.
If possible, a nice desert map with cool ground objects placed around.
Thanks very much in advance.

Cheers
MAX

Here are some templates at M4T that might do the job for you Max ??

Desert Populated
Desert Online template
Desert 'objects only' template
`new` desert map template

If these don't work try using the keyword desert in the search function of the downloads section.
There are some campaigns that may have a populated map that will work for you.

I downloaded some of these maps including a few others like the huge Normandy map. While I read the instructions alright( I think) I put them in the "dogfight" mission folder, but, when I try them, the map opens up... but the game will not start because it says to "choose a flag" (or side) , but there are no FLAGS to choose on the maps!? No flags anywhere!?!
What is happening here? What could it be that I am doing wrong?
ALl I want is to try out some of these cool maps everyone has been creating to see the cool stuff in them in a quick mission mode with some new skins.
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I do not have the templates you are speaking about, but if they are templates then they are NOT missions. You need to populate the map with aircraft to get it to work. The template builder has put objects on the map and you need to add the aircraft.

HMMMMMmmm, I see what you mean. I am still pretty new at this map thing but I have had the game for the past 2 years. There is just too much in it to discover all the time Smile Very good.
After I place my planes into the template, then I can save it as a "new map" and then try to fly in it during Quick Mission mode, correct? or perhaps not?
Once I can figure out these little details I am gonna start my own missions and campaign making!

Like Zues-cat says you need to add the planes to the template.
One other thing that may cause you problems is that you put them in the "dogfight" folder.
This will require you to put in home bases for the map to work.
That is the "flag" that you are being asked to choose.
Look at some of the stock "dogfight" scenarios in the FMB.
You will see several different colored flags located at the airfields.
The colored flag you choose will determine the airfield you will fly from or call "home".
This will require you to play the mission in multiplayer too if you don't select "player" in the plane tab.
"Dogfight" and "Coop" maps are used for multiplayer scenarios.
When you look at the stock "dogfight scenarios you will see that the "player" tab has not been checked for any of the aircraft.
This allows you to choose any of the planes available for that map.
If you check the "player" tab on one of the planes and are the host you will be stuck flying that plane.

A better way is to put the template into a single player mission folder for the nationality and plane that you want to use.

If there is not a folder for the plane that you want to use in the nationality you want to use you can create it in Windows Explorer.

Here is another site that can help you learn how to use the FMB.

Happy flying. Smile

If you use mods and want an entirely new map, the Sinai map at "the source" is really good.

I downloaded and unzipped the online desert map. Its sitting in mydocuments right now. How do I put that map into the game so when I open FMB it will be there?

Thanks.

RPMcMurphy,

The online desert map already exists in the game. What you have downloaded is a file that places objects on that map.

Place that file in one of the subfolders under Missions. For example, you could place it in Missions/net/coop/1 in your IL-2 game folder. This would make the map useable if you hosted coops. When you open the FMB follow the path to ccop/1 to find the map.

Thanks Zeus-cat
However, my online desert map dissappeared.
I was flying on it alot. It was my favorite map, I love that canyon, but one day it was just gone. No explaination. It was just not on the list anymore in FMB. Confused
