I heard a few people mention that it's impossible to get the highest award during a campaign. Is this true? Anyone know what the basis is for awarding medals in IL-2? I always figured it was points scored in a single mission.

The most awards I've ever gotten is when I combined my JG27 Campaigns (part 1 and 2). In 60 missions, starting at Oberfeldwebel, 72 kills and promotions to Oberst earned me 7 medals.

Interesting.

The reason I ask is I have a dgen campaign going, and RAF one in Normandy flying the Tempest, Where I've flown 28 missions, 65 air kills, and 57 ground kills. Bear in mind that just over half of those kills are ju88s, and a good majority of the ground kills were trains.

I started at the lowest rank, and I've been promoted all the way up to Squadron Leader, and have all the medals up to the Victora Cross. There is one medal left, and I'm curious to see if I can get it. Of course, I have a long way to go before the campaign is done, so I have plenty of opprotunity to get that last medal.

What I'm thinking is that the medals might be rewarded on a mission to mission basis, rather then the whole campaign. I've had a lot of big numbers on a per mission basis in that RAF campaign, the early missions had me going up against several flights of ju88s and I'd bag at least 5 each time, which is why I got promoted so fast, with most of the medals awarded.

I wonder what the scoring system is for it.

It seems I answered my own question, for the most part.

Recently, in that RAF campaign, I got the final medal, the 1393-1945 Star. The mission I received it on wasn't all that spectacular, though. I shot down two Fw-190A-5, and completed the mission objective of escorting bombers to target. Other then that, standard stuff.

So, I guess it's possible to get all the medals after all. Still have no idea what the criteria for a medal is, but oh well.

I just upgraded my RU medals, and found that there are only 7.

So, I don't know if that means that you can only get 8 for certain nations or what.

'cause I belive that there are 8 medals for DE, GB, UN and US at least...

It seems that 8 is the maximum, but some have more or less then that. Here's a thread on M4T about it: Awards
