Carl mate, the Korean war almost took as long as this campaign has taken to make Too Happy Cool
j/k - I have achieved exactly diddly-squat on my supposed 8th AF/Defence of the Reich 4 part masterpiece (LW, B-17, P-51 and P47 campaigns) and my fracking MA is starting up again next month so all my time will disappear.

Oh, btw:

this is going to make a mind-blowing coop campaign.

I look forward to the day we can do them all back to back in a coop setting.

Thanx guys for all the input. Yes FSM, I realize it's taken well over 18 mos so far as has been pointed out, and the real world (aka the fracking economy) has really taken up way too much of my time as well - I fully comprehend that.

I went for nearly 3 mos without doing hardly anything on it because of all the chaos, but I have re-engaged intensely and am working a few hrs nearly every day on this without compromising the quality and consistency. I've just completed another misn and am continuing the story. Blazes, I even considered writing an alternate history war novel based on it....yeah, I'm getting pretty desperate for ideas to make money. Roll Eyes

Cap, I can sure use that Hokaido map in the future mod version I'm HOPING I can make when some new AC come out. I assume it's on "the site" where most of the rest of this stuff is (don't say where, I don't wanna get chastised Shady ). TESTERS: keep up with any questionable stuff or flaws etc, look at the static planes and flying ones for paint scheme placement (most should not have WW2 skins if you are using the skin mod). Also date and event consistency etc. Any question you have at all, please lemme know. I keep finding stuff myself. Man this is complicated, which is why I'm gonna release a beta version first, as I could keep testing this thing forever.

BULLETIN: I visited the "site" and saw screens of one guy who managed to activate the speed brakes very effectively, and another who rigged the canopy to open and was discussing drop tanks for a P-80 variant. I just hope it can all be put into one version and is eventually availible with the same FM. Those speed bleeding S turns are a major distraction when making an approach.

I'm working on coop versions of many of the misns, but I think it would take another yr to convert all of them, since they have to be almost totally re-organized to make them playable or practical for online. I may take that on as a project after I release the initial beta version. Meanwhile, there will be a good number of coops.

I highy recommend getting some flight time in the P-80, as it can take you by surprise if you aren't familiar with early jet performance and dangers. I greatly prefer it to the 262, and it's very predictable and from what I've read, pretty realistic. My main problem is my gunnery with the concentrated guns, but the site really helps. I sure with they had put cannon on that thing, but the USAF didn't figure out that .50s were obsolete for jets until 53. It's still good if you just get the hits and get close though.

I'm considering advancing it to 1948 to help with historical accuracy concerning some of the AC involved and possibly linking it to the Berlin blockade crisis. Actually I'm pretty sure I will do that as it helps plug a few holes in the alternate history story. I'll post a few more screens shortly on a little development that will take advantage of that as well.

Now for something a bit different. There was a fighter encountered a few times early in Korea that was described as a "high wing Mig", first encountered by P-80s, and there was at least one gun cam reel that clearly showed such a jet. A few former VVS pilots have stated that they were assigned to the squadron that flew them for a time. The plane had been around a few yrs when it was seen. The icons help me in construction of the misn, so ignore them.

The following is a test misn I made but the cmpn misn that it will evolve into will involve a bit more intrigue.

Keeping that in mind, my P-80 flight was flying CAP over the Manchurian beach-head near our base when we were diverted by GC to a flight of Corsairs that were under attack while approaching the field. These guys came off the deck at high speed under radar and quickly climbed above the Marines, who needed help quickly.

The Corsairs dove for the deck to gain speed and to get away from cannon fire.

When we arrived, I lined up on one, but he quickly outclimbed me. I was surprised at how fast these things were, whatever they were.

As often happens, I wound up in a daisy chain with these guys. My number 2, a reservist Eastern airlines DC-3 pilot (callsign Erco) who got called up, is in the middle of it and the sky started getting crowded again. We also began coming in range of the field's 90mm guns.
My wingman is out of sight to the left shooting at my target.

At the top of the daisy chain one of them broke sharply after taking some hits. Some speed brakes might help here.

The guy I was trying to line up on was about to run out of energy and I finally caught up, but he was moving around so much I couldn't get proper lead on him. If I had remembered to activate the CCIP sight, It woulda helped.

This clown kept breaking as I was about to shoot, and I was having to really hoss this thing around to try and keep up.

We both headed for the ground, which actually helped me more than it did him.

He realized this and started climbing again, pulling away from me right into another furball which I didn't realize was actually the same daisy chain I had joined earlier. I had no idea all these guys were around me while I was chasing him.

I suddenly paid for my tunnel vision as one of these guys had pulled in my 6 oclock without me ever seeing him. He blasted me at point blank range as is attested to by his flying through the fireball. I expect you guys to take up a collection to build a memorial to me.

for those that think this is a bit much, stay tuned.

This is the La-15, which was the competitor to the Mig-15. 500 of these were built from 1948 and at least a small detachment was sent to Korea. It was actually considered superior in some aspects to the Mig, but was expensive to build and apparently suffered a high accident rate on landing. One look at this thing, and it's pretty obvious what the inspiration for this fighter was.

This one is at the Monino museum. I wonder how difficult it would be for some intrepid modder to do a little stretching and tapering to create this from the Ta-183. They obviously took this directly from the Ta, as the original one had about as much chance of flying as the Lerch did, though it did get much farther than being drawn on a napkin. I decided to give it a limited role toward the end of the cmpn, which would have been plausible. BTW, the La-15 skin is by my Hellhounds squadron CO, Col. Beebop.

I think advancing the cmpn a yr to 48 would be more appropriate for the larger numbers of Tu-4s, as they didn't start showing up in any appreciable number until then. Also, the Berlin crisis would help make such a scenario more plausible. Anyway, I'm still at it.

Looks like you may have some new additions to the aircraft stable for this campaign veryyyy soon Mate Smile

Sea Fury (out in beta form), Spitfire MK.XIV (one week be sure) and the Sabre.

looks Like I may need to update a few skins for you now that the proper versions will soon be available.

How you coming along with this so far Mate?

Im REALLY sorry I've not been on here much lately, but rest assured, work is being done, and Im trying to wind it down. Reality and various disasters have interfered a great deal (like the current depression getting me laid off, three ambulance trips and stays in the local ICU-I think Im ok now btw), and some really ANNOYING crap have gotten in my way.

SUCH AS, my old computer crashing after 4 yrs due a bad dnload site of a mod (im the only one that got whatever it was that destroyed my HD) but that was corrected AFTER it destroyed my computers HD. Also, my NEW computer that Quazi built for me (right out of Star Trek) got some crap on it from a photography site that got hacked I have a portfolio on. Is fixed now, and I had it backed up, but still had to dig up a few skins again etc. So......

I hope to release the beta version soon, as the final version I want to include some of the new planes as Nightshifter pointed out.

Im basically getting stuff corrected etc, and have changed it to a 1948 scenario as it works out much better with the Berlin blockade, and makes the alternate history deal far more feasible.

And nightshifter, I fully intend on using one of the new P-80s htat have the speed brakes and tip tanks etc, as well as the Sea fury, Spit 14, Vampire, and hopefully the P-61 and skyraider among others. I also hope a Meteor is out eventually. I will use the F-86 and mig 15 hopefully in a future sequal to this. At least i hope so. You may wanna consider keeping some color schemes on hand for the above planes when they are available with thier own FM etc.

I watn to get this posted before the SOW stuff comes out, and I work at least an hour or two every day (all day and night sunday) getting this tweaked and perfected. Im sure you guys know how difficult that is.

In teh meantime here's a few from one of the misns where hte P-80s at your base are down for engine changes etc and you fly a few newly arrived Ga. ANG P-47s (or maybe F-47s, depending on time it takes to change it). Its so far south thta it's out of fighter range, but pesky arados the VVS have pressed into service keep raiding the last bastion of B-29s in Japan, along with other bombers. I rigged it where you scramble and set up at altitude norht of the base so you can get speed diving on them. It turned out pretty cool, and G forces get in the way a bit.

Here I dove on them and am trying to catch one.

Said G forces get in the way a bit in these high speed diving turns.

Took most of my ammo to kill this thing at range....

As soon as I kill this guy, I gotta go back to the base as Tu-2s are making a low level run.

A head on run with one. I have yet to see the AI fire the forward guns on these.

And an Aussi 51 vainly chases an arado out to sea. Looks good in the sunset.

But I am working steadily......when Im not hunting a job or doing a few photo assignments.
Will be soon, but I have not abandoned this. Ive put way too much time into it.

I also gave the stuff I do have to a couple of folks in the Hellhounds in case I get incapacitated or such, though I doubt that will happen. Just insurance against all this work gong to waste.

Sure Met, but I know about the Spit. I wanna wait till I can see how many of the new planes I can realistically expect to be involved, and modify it accordingly. I want this version to be flyable on straight 408, but the mods (especially teh skin mod for static AC) really make this alot better of course.

I need to test the new spit to see how it does in the AI mode, as I would use it for that only in a future optional version of the cmpn.

Still tweaking and testing etc. Still finding odd changes that Im having to correct concerning skins etc, and making much progress. Hopefully "soon". (won't be months though). Id have had this out 7 mos ago if not for living out many of the X-files episodes.

For some reason every time I read this thread and I see Enforcer say that he is releasing this campaign soon, that old song pops into my head - In the year 2525, if man is still alive...

(hangs head in shame) Yes Zeus old comrade buddy old pal (can't think of any more A kissing stuff), I have had many things get in my way a bit.

I am spending ALL of my spare time (at least 3 hrs a day - all day Sat and Sun) gettting this tweaked and finishing the last two misns. my computer crashes caused much angst, and when I reloaded the daily updated backup on each one, soem stuff was out of kilter. Skins changing, etc, and I keep finding stuff that needs correcting. This thing is ALMOST as complicated as a hot chick's mind.....almost. I want there to be minimal inconsistencies and screw ups.

Im not gonna obsess much more, so I am gonna get this thing out come hell or high water.

I keep finding some goofy stuff in the briefs, and i gotta rig it wehre the briefing (priorities file) has both versions needed to show up in standard 408 adn a mods version (which makes it much better btw).

If I don't get carried to the ICU for the fourth time since August (three is quite enough masochism) IF I don't get recalled to Zeta-Reticula 2 (3rd Rock from the Sun wasn't completely fictional - no Sally on my team though dammit), I WILL have this up a VERY few weeks, if that long. Workign all weekend got two misns completely straightened out and one of the last ones completed.

I am really sorry for these poltergiests and aliens constantly hassling me. They hate flight sims.
Shady

I offer this gift from my photo studio (it's a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it) to placate all the angry minions. I also understand that instead of working at my difficult part time occupation, I should have been working on my cmpn. Forgive me for askewed priorities.

Just giving you a bit of a hard time Enforcer. Don't strive for perfection as none of us will ever get there. Go for great and we can live with it.

Yeah, Ive given up on perfection, but I keep finding odd stuff. My La-7 skin by beebop is....gone. I mean the final version with stars on the wings. Only the old version is there. Truly odd. And I cant find the updated one that looked better. Of course this is impossible.

But I will persevere and get this out bloody soon.

I also found an older post I made with one of my fav misns and some airfield stuff, so Ill post it here and combine it.

Amazing. this thing finally let me back on here without the "error" crap. I am STILL working on this, as much as I can, and am very close to the end (like I was before two computer crashes). Then I have to do the cmpn file and readme etc.

I have had t0o endure two computers crashing, the loss and recovery of a few skins, and an assortment of disasters and BS, mostly related to the current depression we are in. Ive had alot more photo jobs coming in, and photoshop requires a bit of time at night, but I still fit this in.

Anyhoot, I am working on this nearly every day. I better get it out pretty soon, as the next quarter of tech school is gonna start July 6 and take alot mor3 time than it does now.

I am really sorry this has taken so blasted long (nearly two yrs of almost constant work being constantly interrupted by disaster), but I want it to be complete. I had to do the last three misns over again as they were lost when my new computer self destructed a few months ago, but now I back up every thing daily.

From the looks of it, we will be doing this sim for another couple of yrs at least, so it won't be wasted. I would post a few screens, but I need the time to work on it more.

Hello people,
You did a great job with that campaign, but how did you get the russians and the americans fighting eachother with their own marks? I tried to do that too but it didn't work. I couldn't get the proper markings on.

please tell me how you did it.

He used skins with the markings on.

However there is also a mod at AAA that adds loads of new countries, including blue USAF for a cold war scenario.
