The Soviet pilots are determined and ignore their losses to fighters and AA. They keep slinging lead in a target rich environment and inflicting growing damage.

This closeup of one of my victims shows the effects of one of the mods that adds a bit of gruesome effect. Note the windscreen.

At some point a gunner knocked off a couple of cylinder heads and I wound up losing nearly all my power. I made a deadstick landing under fire but came in too fast.

I bounced a bunch and finally came to rest breaking my machine as insurgent artillery lands in the parking area next to me.

An AI C-47 that was orbiting the field trying to land seems to have avoided the place during the attack. It just came in and landed in between straffing attacks, which I thought kinda unusual. Anyway, this is all for now. I just though some of you might be interested in seeing a night action with the mods in use, especially the skin mod.

Well don't give up hope. I appreciate the interest, and Am gonna finish it as soon as possible though work etc is getting in the way big time. It WILL be finished though, and released as a beta. The final version is just waiting on some of the new mod planes and a complete P-80.

I've got a few misns to go and alot of tweaking and checking. I don't think anyone could afford to pay me for this.

This is nothing I can do about the movement of the CV, as it's a game bug in the way the ships move. It's just turning but the ships' turn isn't done very well in the sim.

I alwas smooth out my ship's turns with a multitude of waypoints making up the turn in 5 degree increments It makes the turns look realistic and allows for realistic maneuvers while under attack, in a river, in a close quarters battle, etc.

Hope that helps

(It just gets annoying if you have to change the ship's speed on each waypoint)

Good luck

That is a great suggestion that I've used before, and I think I may have corrected that in this case, but I gotta check.

Oh, it's still alive and well man. I just got my new computer that Quazi built for me and it's like going from a P-40 to an F-100. I've had to do a bit of tweaking the last couple of weeks as well and transfer alll my stuff over. I've also had a goofy schedule the past month and done little more than fly Browning 50s recent cmpn.

I have done a bit of detail cleanup the past week though, and it looks great on my new machine. I didn't know this stuff looked this good when it was turned way up.

I intend on releasing a beta version as soon as I can, hoping that eventually some of hte new mod planes will see light of day, like that great Sea fury, a P-80 variant that has the speed brakes and tip tanks, the P-61, and Griffon engine spits...and of course the Meteor.

Those would really make that thing what I'd like to do. I'd settle for the speed brakes and tip tanks that were originally included with the plane when it was submitted.

An LST would be nice to, but hey, I can fantasize can't I?

I was also kinda hoping somebody would come up wiht a seperate entry for a Tu-4 version of the B-29, just listed seperately so I could have them on the ground in thier own colors and markings. As it is, I can only put one skin on the static ones in the skin mod, and it looks kiinda goofy to see all these Tu-4s on the ground in US markings. You ahve to be familiar with the skin mod to understand what Im talking about though.

I think I am within about 4 misns of ending it for the time being. A later version with some more stuff in it would have a few more, but I can tell the story with a few more misns.

The B-29 A bomber is one of the new additions I'd like to use as well, but I will still have some interesting stuff here.

Some of the improvisations I'm having to resort to make up for the lost hrs at my job are kinda getting in the way a bit, but I am about to jump back into the cmpn big time.

I can't complain about some of the delays in these mod AC etc if I allow myself to be delayed as well. I took time out of tweaking a misn to answer this btw. I'll be posting an update pretty soon.

I really hope we get to see that Sea Fury you painted pretty soon.

Ok people, I've resumed regular work on the project, and here are a few screens from the most recent misn. Your P-80 squadron is still operating out of the afore illustrated base in Nationalist Chinese territory close to the Soviet border. The base is being expanded constantly between the almost as constant VVS air attacks and harassment by Mao's insurgents. The number of allied squadrons operating out of this little base is expanding greatly, so there is constant traffic as raids against Soviet targets increase. These are successfully drawing resources from the Kuriles and the Japanese home islands, but Soviet squadrons are being relocated from Europe. Everybody keeps wondering when the 509th is going to get a phone call from President Truman. This is flyable in 408 straight, but is alot better with the mods.

This misn is the result of a shot up RB-29 making a forced landing with some alarming film on board.

It's been couple of days since our guys have visited the little Rusky town with the big train depot, but it has suddenly become very popular with a Soviet guards armored division. Massive amounts of vehicles and supplies are being offloaded and it's obvious where their attention is going to be directed.

Your weary squadron has only one small flight to escort the first raid of B-25s and ANG P-47s.
The Jugs find that the town is so congested with road and rail traffic that it is an incredibly target rich environment....and a pretty dangerous one as there is usually a VVS CAP and plenty of AAA.

The low level raid reaks havoc, and there is little air opposition at first for some reason.

The attacking pilots can't shoot without hitting something, and utter chaos erupts on the ground as the local commanders start screaming for help. This isn't the first attack on this target, but it's never been this jammed with targets before.

The B-25s pull off target and head for home after wrecking the depot, as fighters will arrive any moment.

As you orbit above, Migs show up and jump the Jugs. Lagg 3 jets from a nearby training base also arrive at the same time.

The 47s can take a few hits from the cannon of the Migs, which are flown by AI pilots that always seem to flame the engines out by firing long bursts regardless of skill level. Strangely this doesn't seem to affect the flight characteristics of the AI Migs.

Your P-80s wade into the red jets, and do rather well despite being outnumbered 2 to 1 against some well flown fighters.

Meanwhile, an RAAF B-24 on a recon misn has been jumped by the La-9s that were CAPing the town (yeah, I used I-285s-kinda close actually). Some of the Lagg 3RDs also attack and the escort of P-51s has its hands full. At least now you know where the CAP over the town was.

As if you didn't already have your hands full, you and your wingman charge to the rescue...or at least you try to.

The Aussie 51s are actually competitive with the Lagg jets, as they are nearly as fast and certainly more agile in this bar room brawl.

I was so heavily engaged in this fight that I didn't even know a Lagg jet was making a deflection run on me....and a pretty good one. I never even heard it when a 23mm took off a stabilizer.

This guy was good, as he was undoubtedly an instructor from their training base where these things were assigned. I had a rough time getting him off me.

My wingman tried to assist me, but took a cannon burst in the engine from the Rusky's wingman and had to eject...I could only hope he would evade capture but I had my doubts. I was too busy to help anyway.

This fight was getting pretty crowded as I kept trying to figure out WTF I couldn't seem to turn with these guys too well anymore.

And crowded it was...i nearly collided twice with these Jug guys as I was chasing jets.

Some of the cripples were trying to make it home down the beach, but at least one was caught by a Mig, which blew it to bits with those cannon.

I finally did an F2 view and saw to my surprise that I was minus a stabilizor, so I hauled outta there. I had to approach amongst some of the crippled bombers who were landing on a parallel grass runway to the matte one I was aiming for. Pitch became a real problem on my approach.

I was unable to maintain a proper pitch angle at low speed (which woulda been alot more realistically achieved if we had the original speed brakes that were included in this bird when it was designed). I wound up rolling for a tremendous distance in my wingless nose section.
I could only hang on.

I manage to claw my way out of the fuselage as the fuel ignites. I smelled like kerosene for weeks.

I hit the deck as my AC explodes and singes my keyster. The B-25 guys above were no doubt highly entertained.

I thought this left my ears ringing, but realized that the alert klaxon was sounding at the base. I ran as hard as I could to find something to fly, as there no doubt were some more unwelcome visitors enroute.

God only knows what they've sent after us now.

This looks pretty sweet!

I've never played any alternate history, but I think that this one will be fun.

I find that doing "s" turns to burn energy helps me slow up before I reach the airfield.

Keep truckin' on this one, I know it's going to be good.

Yeah, S turns are the only way to slow down in the P-80. If the speed brakes that are located in the fuselage (look inside it behind the pilot) were made operational as they were originally designed (how tuff would that be) you wouldn't have to do that.

And if we had the tip tanks that were included as well, I could really do some stuff. I'm having to make too many air starts to simulate the point after they are dumped to get some range out of the machine, but with proper throttle management it can actually fly for a surprising long time.

It takes a little getting used to, but the P-80 is my fav bird in this sim, and I think if given a chance that most would really enjoy it.

Since I started this project well over a year ago, I've thought of about a million questions I wish I could ask my late Dad about his tour in the occupation force on Kyushu.

Been honoured to be beta-tester for this campaign.

It is an absolute riot...lots of targets (always outnumbered) and certainly not easy.

My poor little computer has trouble keeping up with it all. Time to upgrade.

Hey thanx JP. Neat screen. I've finally finished a rather advanced misn that follows the one above....sheesh. I had to figure out how to get AI Arado Blitz jets to drop those blasted rocket boosters when they air start (accidentally discovered that they will if you make it climb steeply at first). I also had to mess with the attack profile those things use a bit, as they act kinda odd if at lower level and tend to blow themselves outta the air or dive into the ground if approaching below 1000m, But I think I got around it.

I also rigged a take off from a grass parking area where you taxi onto the matt runway. Turns out that invisible runway 4 is only a few inches lower than the low matt one, and you just get a bit of a bump when you taxi onto it. Kinda neat.

I also was directed by Col. Beebop to a post on the, uh, mod source, from a guy who put an opening canopy and (get this) a working tail hook on a variant of the P-80. I and a few others are begging this guy to try and activate the speed brakes and add tip tanks. We shall see. I just hope it becomes available for dnload eventually. I'm getting a bit tired of those blasted S turns on approach.

Also, those blasted Blitzes are very fast and very durable. I was kinda amazed at times the amount of ammo required to bring them down. You gotta get close, but I remembered that I discovered that long ago when I started using it.

And I'm gonna do some more coop conversions of a few of them, toning them down a bit for better online fights. Just helps a bit with the FR. Now if I can just speed this up a bit.
