Off the top of my head:
The Spitfire XII was mostly used to intercept low level Fw-190 raids against Britain, from around Spring 1943. It was delivered in small numbers, just 100 from what i recall and didn't see action until the end of the war, as the Spitfire XIV was introduced in early 1944 and started to replace it. The Spitfire XII's enemies would have been mostly the Luftwaffe's 1943 inventory: Bf-109 G, mostly G-6 and Fw-190As. The XIV was famously used against V-1 bombs, then over Normandy and generally western Europe, during operation Bodenplatte and the invasion of Germany, until the end of the war. Spitfire XIVs were also sent to the Pacific, but mostly too late to see action. It was later deployed to the colonies, also seeing some action against Egyptian and Israeli Spitfires in the 1948 war, and against rebels in Malaya. During the war the Spitfire XIV faced a large variety of late war Luftwaffe aircraft. V-1s, Bf-109 G-6 up to Bf-109 K-4, Fw-190 A up to D, Me-262s, Ju-188s, Arado 234s etc etc. By 1945 they would be facing the newer models, as the Luftwaffe would completely renew their inventory due to heavy losses but high production levels. The Spitfire XIV is, like the Tempest, a classic adversary for the Fw-190 D-9. Edit: How it fared against the Luftwaffe: Mostly successfully, in many cases completely slaughtering the opposition. jg-26/6 and jg-27 were usually known to put up a good fight though.
