Hey Gents,
I'm wondering which object can be placed (as a target) that makes the biggest explosion when bombed?  |

i would think a mistel

A Mistel will do it, but use a "live" one -
0 fuel 0 alt 0 speed Set takeoff and 1 other waypoint , then drag to target area (will fit in one of the larger pacific hangars) |

LOL I remeber once I was showing IL2 to one of my friends (who is an airline pilot IRL), so I set up a few hangars for him to blow up with rockets on P-38. Of course I didn't tell him that there is a live mistel hidden in one of the hangars.

You can try whit the Pe 8 bomber full loaded whit a 4 tons bomb. Same settings than the mistel.

Only problem is that using the Pe8 as a target is that as a "piloted" AI it will either attempt to take off and crash or if zero fuel it will simply de-spawn after the crew bails. Identical explosive effect to Mistel (more points for a kill tho' - if that really bothers you) Pity really that the V2 object doesn't have explosive properties. |

A mistel is essentially a medium bomber filed with explosives w/o crew that is guided by an accached fighter.

That's half of the size. I took this Screen shot to early. ALL u have to do is set it's Fuel to 0 since it has no pilot.... Nothing will hapene it would just sit there.

Hehe, pity you didn't sat a carrier somewhere close to that giant mushroom just to give scale. However, it could barely be compared to nuke. The weakest nukes (Russian briefcase version, or American DavyCrockett gun) have (better: had) output of about 10 or 20 tons of TNT. Mistel carried (IIRC) 1,800 kg (~4.000 lbs) of TNT. Some 10 times less. The weakest tactical thermonuclear nukes today (say, B-61) can achieve output as low as .3 kT - but that's still 300 tons of TNT (!!!). LOL yea i know it's not even close to a Nuke but in this game it is. (If u know what i mean) and yea he has a better example i was in a bit of a rush when i made my photo's. ! problem tho if u have icon;s on the secret will be out

Actually, I started to wonder which does a bigger explosion: a Mistel or FAB5000 11.000lbs bomb dropped from Pe8? AFAIK Mistel had a shaped charge for penetrating thick layers of concrete and almost three times less explosive, so it should have considerably smaller mushroom compared to general purpose FAB5000 bomb. Don't have the sim installed atm so I can't check.

It's in the Aircraft list, not the object list. For a more restrained and/or more scalable effect, a couple of the train carriages are "filled" with armaments or fuel and give a nice big bang. The bang is big enough to set of the carriage next to it as well, so if you put a lot of them right next each other in a hangar the effect is proportional to the number of train carriages   SST X-45 profile | SST X-52 Profile | Joysticks & IL2/FB/PF | IL2Sticks Utility Maddox Forums Moderator |

The pe-8's 5000kg bomb explosion looks the same as the mistel, but once I was feeling evil and so I launched a mistel at a pe-8 parked on the ground with a live 5000kg bomb in it!
