(Edited for simplicity's sake)

Apologies if this idea has been posted by someone else before.

The long and the short is to use a stationary JU-88 Mistel as the "reactor" or "nuke weapon depot" to target and give the Big Boom.

In order to creat the "nuke ground target", simply place a JU-88 Mistel excatly where you want it. Mark that waypoint as takeoff. No other waypoint is needed. The Mistel will show up exactly where you placed it.

Place Object #367 or #368 or #369 over the Mistel. Other buildings make the Mistel explode at the start of the mission.

You now have a building, wherever you want it, that when hit will generate a mushroom cloud explosion. Build any scenery around it you like, put in lots and lots of AAA and you have the mother of all ground targets. Just don't get too close. Demonic

A few (bad) shots of the idea.

Excellent! Now we can make some 'Target Ammo Dump' missions.
Nice find. Thumbs Up

Cheers!

T'was a pleasure. Cool

One of the great things about this sim is finding all the little tricks you can pull off to make it better.

it's neat and all but it doesn't work for DF maps Sad i tried this many moons ago. In the online world we have to use train car #8

Cool! I'm going to run home from work right now & try that one out! Winky

I'm thinking Tiny Tims from a Corsair might keep you out of the blast radius. Shady

I've been looking for a reason to build an absolute fortress of hardened AAA sites and a reason to breach it. (Hello? Mr. Mosquito?)

This is it - a Nazi nuke lab. This will make for some good scenery & mission building fun. Thumbs Up

What a shmuck I am. I went about the complicated way of placing the JU-88 Mistel on the ground but it's not that complicated at all.

Simply place a JU-88 Mistel where you want it with no extra waypoint. Mark that waipoint as Takeoff and that's it. The Mistel is on the ground exactly where you see it.

Sorry for the Rube Goldberg explanation in my first post. Sad

I've been playing around with making nuclear weapons/ammo dump bunkers to put the Mistel in and this is one of the ideas. (Bridge span #222)

The problem is I can't figure out how to make it a hardended target. Making the sides bombproof isn't hard, there are enough objects available to do that, but making the top bombproof is proving a challenge.

I've tried layering objects to create a false thickness (20 layers) but that doesn't work. I'd like to make something that can withstand a 500lb bomb direct hit.

Anyone have any luck with making hardened targets?

Can one use some other airplanes, perhaps loaded with bombs to do the same as with the mistel. As to get some smaller explosions?

alternative: use Pe-8 + 5000kg bombload. Wink2

whisper The Mistel was "only" around 3500kg IIRC.

What about placing a couple of more modest "bombloads" inside?
Might be used perhaps also for better ground action, like the planes being destroied by tanks etc?

Not to rain on the parade, but I'm fairly certain that nuclear bombs won't detonate from blowing up their surroundings or casings, they'd just leak radation (the fuel for the delivery system would go off though).

However, it's a really cool FMB idea, and could be explained as a bomb factory, or a munitions dump, or a fuel depot, or a cordite factory, or even a Mistel creation facility. Hammer Big Grin

Thumbs Up

I think lowfighter had the right idea, you could place multiple smaller charges inside a large area. This could simulate hardening in that there'd be a good chance of missing the internal charge and just damaging the building.

In theory at least..... Smile
