When i make a mission i make a file in the relevant mission file then load the map, make the mission do the description and set the settings then save as the mission name i made for the file. Then i go into the relevant file and move the mission folder and the properties folder into the file i made. Twice i've had the full lot come up but usually nothing!! when i check the mission in the FMB its all there but wont load up. It must be me as all the missions i've dowmloaded work properely; Can someone please tell me what it is i'm doing wrong??

If you re using the mods there are issues with mission briefings - see Enforcer's thread just below this one.
If you are editing the briefing files in Notepad or ther text editor you must not use the Enter key. IL-2 does not recognize anything after the Enter key in a properties file. When using notepad to write your briefing use
instead of the enter\return key or the properties file will not read the briefing from the first time you use the enter\return key instead of
to end the line.

- One new line

- Two new lines. This applies to a non modded game. Wheelsup |

I have had the same problem since I got the MODS. If I'm not mistaken, I've always used the ENTER key when building missions and briefings and never had a problem before. Thanks for the tips. I'll try later and get back here.

CzechTexan,
The ENTER key works fine IN the FMB. When using Notepad to edit files the ENTER key WILL cause problems. Zeus-cat Follow this link to my campaigns at M4T including the Editor's Pick "Straight From the Farm" http://www.mission4today.com/i...s&file=search&sa=301 |

Ok I just saw this again. I'll mess with it some, though I was having no problems for months. I'll mess with it some.
Edit. ok, It won't give me an option other than "saving as". I have to do that to add the _ru suffix to it. It doesn't give me the option to just 'save'. I don't seem to have an option to use the /n function or type anything like that in. ------------------------------ Sleep tight tonight, your Air Force is......awake! |

Enforcer,
Try doing this to fix your briefing. In Windows Explorer: 1) Take an existing properties file with the _ru extension and copy it. Use one that you know works 2) In Explorer click on the file name and change the name to what you need for the campaign. 3) Copy the text from the file that does not work and paste it into this new file. 4) Close the file (do not use the drop down File menu). Windows will always ask you if you want to save a file that has been changed. Say yes. It will save the file in the properties format. When editing files in Notepad you MUST use
for a new line. When editing the file in the FMB use Enter. If you use Enter in Notepad any text after Enter will NOT appear when you play the game. Here is the text from the first mission from my Straight Out of the Mist campaign. Name Mist01 Short B-25 Straight Out of the Mist 01 by Zeus-cat
Description Mission by Zeus-cat

Colonel Arthur B. Bopp - what a moron! It’s not your fault the squadron hasn’t sunk any ships in three weeks. Hell, you haven’t even seen a Jap ship in three weeks. The damn enemy is never where the colonel sends you; how are you supposed to sink anything? If this is anybody’s fault, it has to be the colonel’s. It’s his damn intel that’s lousy.

Relieving you of command was one thing, but to call you a coward was too much. It’s too bad you missed the SOB when you took a swing at him for that coward comment he made; especially since that swing cost you your command. But then the bastard wouldn’t even court martial you to give you a chance to defend yourself. Instead, he gave you the worst job a combat pilot can be stuck with – running the mail between bases.

Maybe he’s just trying to kill ya; the damn mail plane is barely airworthy. The compass works when it wants to. The fuel gauges are unreliable. The tires should have been replaced twenty landings ago and the engines sound terrible. As the colonel said, like you, she's only fit to fly mail.

And what a day; to fly; rain, rain, rain! Crap, what was it the private at the weather shack said? A bad rain squall is between us and the forward base you have to deliver the mail to. Bad enough that the mail plane probably wouldn't make it through the worst of it. So instead of flying direct you have to fly out to sector BA/1 (course 263) and then up to the forward base (Batu Pahat) (course 340) in AY/8. Since the compass can't be trusted you need to stay under the clouds to keep an eye on the coast as long as you can. 9 or 10 minutes after leaving the coast behind you can make your turn and try to find the other base.

Of course, the question as to why are you flying a piece of junk airplane to an abandoned airfield never came up. If the damn thing is to close to enemy lines to be used for a regular airfield, why are they sending you there in an unarmed plane to deliver a few sacks of mail???

Fuel: ?
Weather: Rain
Time: 1645
Altitude: 1,500 feet
Loadout: 10 sacks of mail

Select the "BeatUp_Dirty_B25J" skin this mission.
This message has been edited. I've solved my major problems. Thanks zeus-cat, and others. A while back I was having problems with the mission briefings not showing up but I think I solved that by building and saving missions in only in the un-modded version.
Then, I had the problem of some of my older campaigns not working in the MOD version I have. Someone else mentioned he deleted the [HOUSE] line so I did that and now these campaigns work in my modded version. EXCEPT...my Valley of Death part 1 and 2 and Battle for Kuban part 2. I did some copy/pasting and most likely ENTER key in those mission files so I figure that's where my problem lies. I don't know where I used the ENTER key there so I'm not sure how to fix that. At least it's all still flyable on the un-modded version which is fine with me. From now on I'll make all future missions in the un-modded version and be careful not to use the ENTER key so it'll be flyable for MODS too. Maybe this post will help others with the same problems. Thanks again to everyone who has given advice. *** 80% of all German casualties in WW2 were on the Eastern Front. *** Missions I've created are here: http://www.freewebs.com/czecht...turmovikmissions.htm , http://www.flying-legends.net/ , http://mission4today.com/ , Netwings.org |

CzechTexan,
Open your bad briefing files in Notepad. If they do NOT look like the file I posted earlier (one continous paragraph as opposed to multiple paragraphs), then you have an Enter in the file. Just delete it and the briefing should be fine. Another option is to play the mission in the game. Everything BEFORE the Enter will show up. Everything after the Enter will not. Make note of where the briefing ends and that will tell you where the Enter was made. So far i've tried everything suggested by Zues_cat and others; using a mission file i know works and using notepad to check the mission file and still nothing. This happens in a modded and unmodded version of my game! is there a file i could be missing? czechtexan removed a [House] file; where is this file and would it help? would just like to say thanks for all the help from everyone so far.

Hi Smudger92, If you post the briefing you are trying to use we may be able to see the problem. The [House] section is in the .mis file. (See .mis file example below. It also is a mission file you can use to learn how to use the 1-16 attached to TB-3's.) I personally don't see how removing this section in the .mis file would solve the problems you are having with the properties file. I am not saying it won't I just don't understand how ? It's probably the file name then. For some reason this game sometimes has problems with file names that include any characters other than numbers and letters. Underscores or hyphens are usually safe but also occasionally cause problems. Spaces, punctuation marks and special characters (!@#$% etc..) should be absolutely avoided. If your mission file has any of these characters in the file name, rename it and the properties file without these characters and test again. --------------------- Regards, Tully Joysticks & IL2/FB/PF | IL2Sticks Utility IL2JoyControl Utility | See How It Flies |

Smudger92, I opened the .mis file in Notepad and looked for the line [House]and deleted it.
You can find it after all the lines "bld House$Furniture...", after {StaticCamera] and [Bridge]. ...I don't know the reasoning why it solved my problem but I got this tip from someone else in a different post. Zeus-cat, my briefings in the properties file look OK. I only use the FMB to write the briefings and I don't edit with notepad. When I get this problem when loading a mission in MODS I get the error message "null" usually after the stationary objects load, sometimes earlier. So I suspect the problem would be with loading some type of particular line in the .mis file. And apparently it is caused by my version of MODS. It's not a big problem for me as these are old missions and being played in MODS (they work in regular IL-2 1946). It just irks me a lil bit that there's probably a simple solution to all this. |

CzechTexan,
Your assessment makes sense. If you only use the FMB to edit briefing files, then they should be OK. And if you are getting an error loading, then as you said it must be the .mis file. I suggest you go to the site that has the mods you are using and post your .mmis file and your problem there. You could try deleting various objects from the mission to see if you can get it to work. Make a copy of the file and delete something and try loading it. You would need to do this repeatedly, but you might be able to identify the offending object that way. Good idea to delete some stuff but for now it's just not that important to me. Plus, those maps have tons of objects and it might take forever.
I'll just be more careful about future building. Thanks for the help. |

Right then, thanks too everyone for their help but i've finally worked out the solution: if i set the conditions and then keep the box open, then write the description and keep that box open then save the mission the brief will work fine! any one else have this little quirk?

P.S. thanks also to everyone for not pointing out my intial spelling mistake.
