I have almost finished a fictional campaign, set in the pacific early 1944 where a small escort carrier and some destroyers end up deep behind enemy lines and have to fight their way home relying on stealth and "guerilla" tactics. Unfortenately, I found it hard to find any info about which types would be flying where in january 1944.
So, what types of enemy aircraft could be encountered in january 1944 in:
-Saipan
-Palau
-around Truk islands
-Wake

And which US aircraft would be stationed at Midway island in february 1944?
-B-24?, F4F?

Depends on the force involved. If its the USN then the types you'd see the most of are the F6F, TBM/TBF, and SBD (and I think some SB2C's would be arriving at this stage but we don't have those). Escort carriers would have the FM-2 Wildcat and TBM/TBF. For the Japanese land based A6M5 and a smattering of A6M3s. The USMC would be using the F4U-1A.
