This is a first for me: I've built some campaigns before, but never actually released any. Here's one that makes good use of the beautiful terrain of the MTO map, included in 4.09b. The campaign is "inspired by" (as they say it) the book "A good clean fight" by Derek Robinson. Since there is virtually no air to air action in that book I took the liberty to add plenty of it.

Nicely done so far, Vanderstok.
Only a couple of missions in but no real glitches or problems. I'm really enjoying the map - forgot it existed actually. Your choice of skins is great, possibly the same one I had chosen for my idea a while back. Actually, you might want to mention which skin for the player to use. Nice bit of low-level action against a rare opponent so that was nice for a change. ********************** Download my campaigns at Mission4Today.com. Forgot to mention that elephant has some nice RAF and LW desert pilot skins just for campaigns like this. I used them in my Afrika campaign. I can email them to you if you are interested. Alternatively you could just grab them from my campaign Luftwaffe Pilot:Afrika at M4T. Details like that add a lot for some players (okay, me!), especially in an exotic setting like North Africa where the uniforms were clearly different.
Also, when I copied and pasted the missions folder into my IL2 installation I then had to go in and extract the actual campaign folder, so if you were thinking to change things for a future release you might want to correct the file structure, but it's no big deal. ********************** Download my campaigns at Mission4Today.com. Thanks. Yeah, I like those uniforms as well, but I completely forgot about them. I do have you mission Afrika installed (obviously!) so I'll take a look in my pilot skin folder..
What is exactly wrong with the file structure? If I open the zip file, then select "unzip" to default IL2 folder all is fine on my end...? Oh yeah...things will get a bit more interesting later in the campaign |

No I meant rare opponent in the sense of 'a type I rarely encounter'. I'm really enjoying the campaign.
File structure -don't recall but I think it was something like Missions>GB>Campaigns>GB>Desert Hornets. Could be wrong though and it's easy to install. ********************** Download my campaigns at Mission4Today.com. Yes, that's something I'd never thought about until I did my Tobruk Stuka campaign. I realized the player's wingmen were always close enough to be seen clearly from the cockpit and are even looking towards the player most of the time, so I gave certain individuals their own uniform, chosen from one of the supplied skins. The fact that they're wearing something different should be just enough to get noticed. Didn't bother for the player, as I assumed anyone who cared would have their own favourite anyway. This campaign caught my eye as well, particularly as it's pretty close in time & place to the Tobruk action I'd been researching so recently. Hope to find some time to properly 'get into it' some time soon. |
