When I fly in a friendly formation the planes always give a radio message of "taking hits" then promptly crash. This seems strange as there is no AA or firing of ANY kind. There are no enemy planes or friendly ships. Any reason why it happens? Its a mission I made so I am pretty sure no ne is being fired at.

It's either AI planes colliding with each other or flying into mountains/hitting the ground.

CHECK the altitude/airspeed of EACH AI waypoint.

You may have to move your AI formations farther apart. Try 1km side to side and 1km altitude.

You can also fly on autopilot and use <SHIFT><F2> to see what your AI guys are doing.

Just about everybody who has made more than a few missions has encountered the "We're taking hits" syndrome.

Sometimes the AI planes make awful collisions together, it is a common problem. But if you're offline you can 'refly' in case you don't want to lose a valuable wingmate to some complete nonsense glitch. It's better not to take everything too seriously...

Just for comparison, in Red Baron 2 the same problem was solved by not allowing friendly collisions. It seems that it is difficult to keep any AI plane from colliding.

Thanks for the info. Its only 4 planes at 3000m over the ocean so I guess the AI is just horrible.

Yeah well i suspect this is simply the ai being stupid. In a QMB i was practicing strafing and lost 3 of 12 aircraft, mostly because they failed to pull up after a rocket attack. There was no aa at the time ether!!

This problem can ALWAYS be fixed.

Try grouping your AI flight of four into two flights of two.

Check your AI waypoints bud!

Kinda hard to assess this as there isn't alot of info here on exactly what is going on wiht the AI.

the skill level can also make a difference here as well. Mtns will get in the way, so you have to watch your WP altitude as well as the skill level in this case.

Actually, I just had this happen to me! A bomber we were escorting said it was taking hits, and voom it was shot down. I saved the game and checked the replay. There were no planes near it at all, there was no AAA, nothing. All of a sudden it's flying along, then "I'm taking hits" appears, and then it's on its way down. I reviewed it a couple of times from different angles, and there was nothing there.

I attribute it to Gremlins! Wink

Damn! I guess I have been lucky that this problem has never plaqued me. As it is I spend well over half of my mission building time working out these kinds of bugs and trying to get the AI to do what I need them to do.Crying

good hunting to all,
