I'm hoping that it is possible to create a Navigation map to learn speed, bearing and other skills something like this;

The mission starts with your plane travelling at a heading of 120 degrees. Your speed is 240km/h, the plane has just 15-20 minutes fuel left.

You need to rendezvous with your aircraft carrier which was last known position of heading 170 degrees at 30 km/h ? (just estimating here).

The mission is to find your aircraft carrier and land before the fuel runs out, which ideally should be very close to the actual locating of the carrier.

I hope that explains the sort of thing I'm looking for, but I want to try and get a basic navigation and speed understanding by using IAS and TAS along with bearings etc, etc.

This is only for fun, but would it be easy to do (also disabling autopilot?)

Cheers, MP

Sounds like a really great and worthy endeavour, would be very usefull.

I have no clues about creating the actual mission but I really like the idea Mate.

Thumbs Up

Mission 19 in my "Straight From the Farm campaign" is essentially what you described. Here is the briefing:

In this mission you will transfer from one carrier to another. You will be taking off from an escort carrier and landing on a fleet carrier a considerable distance away. To get to the second carrier you must fly specific distances, at specific speeds, on specific headings. You must maintain radio silence during this mission as you are in a combat zone. Please do not use the mini map.

Here is your flight path:
180mph, heading 310 degrees, 6 minutes
180mph, heading 040 degrees, 6 minutes
180mph, heading 090 degrees, 4 minutes
180mph, heading 125 degrees, 2 minutes

And don't forget to use Bombsight Table 2 by WT_Pedropan + WT_Pitr

While it wasn't specifically designed as a navaid, it is quite handy to figure time-to-fly for various speeds, altitudes, and distances.

Zeus-Cat's Mission 19 gives you specific flying directions, but you can look at any coop or campaign briefing map (any of Zeur-Cat's open-ocean missions are good), use a cheap art-store protractor to figure heading-to-fly on each leg, guesstimate the distance of each leg from the map grids, plug the distance and your inflight speed into Bombsight Table 2, and it tells you how long to fly each leg.

Mate,
Check your PM's.

Zeus, anti and Beebop, thanks for the replies. I would have replied sooner, only when I came to the forums...they were all down!

Anyway, suffice to say, I starting to time my runs now, and really enjoying these mission.

Thanks for taking the time, cheers, MP.
