1) ok, first, how the heck do I set up an Ohka to be carried and launched by a Betty? I've tried setting up one Ohka waypoint near the Betty's first waypoint, then a second GAttack waypoint for the Betty over a ship I want to have destroyed, then a 3rd for the Betty further on so it doesn't kamikaze into the boat. however, the Ohka doesn't attach to the Betty, and just slowly flies downwards and crashes; either that or it crashes into the Betty.

What am I doing wrong? I followed the manual's instructions.

2) what are good targets for heavy level bombers in the FMB? As far as I can figure, you can't set up factories or other buildings to be destroyed (unless I'm mistaken). Having them bomb enemy ships usually results in only one bomb out of 50 actually hitting the ship, plus it's not like B-29's or whatever were used to blow up boats that often.

Check out this little Ohka test mission I made a long time ago. No flyable planes....just view it through externals.

See how it's set up in the FMB.

I believe I had set it up pretty close to historically correct (as far as IL-2 let me).

This means that the Ohka was released at a very high altitude, glided down many miles toward the target and then ignited it's engine shortly before impact.

hmm...how do I create a mission file using that data? when I try to open the .mis files to edit them, I don't have any programs that can open them. do I need to download some kind of editor, or is there somewhere I can insert the data?

Just make a copy of any mis file in one of your mission folders. Then open it with Notepad (which comes with Windows).

Delete everything in there and replace it with the file contents in my post. Remember to rename the file to anything you like.

Place the mis file back into a mission folder and open it up in the FMB. Very simple. Should take about 3 minutes.

ok, thanks, I'll give that a try in a bit.

Now about my other question...

what would be a nice target to set up for, say, a B-29?

You can target anything you like. Factories, airfields, churches, open fields.

With level bombing you should NOT set the GATTACK way point to any object. Just make a GATTACk way point and place it over the target. The lead bomber will endevour to hit this spot.

Simpler yet...here's what I do;
Highlight Aviars mission file in his post from "[MAIN]" to "[House]". Right click and choose "Copy". Then open Notepad, right click any empty space and choose "Paste" Then go to "File/Save As", type in a name like "Aviars Seppeku.mis". Then navigate to "Mission/Net/coop" and pick any folder (or create one) and "Save" it into that folder. Make sure you save it as *all files or it won't show up on the mission list. Anything written in Notepad saves by default as a ".txt" file. If you allow that suffix to be appended to the name it won't show up. Make sure it's a ".mis" file.
Now you can open it in the FMB. (which will create a blank .properties file for it as well).

Bonus Tip: right click any .mis file and choose Open. You should be asked what program to use. Choose Notepad. Check the box that says "always use to open this type of file." Do the same with the .properties files. Then anytime you wish to edit a mission or properties file it will open with Notepad by default.

My 2 kopecks worth.
