I had an idea to do a Cold War scenario for some coop missions. (Both sides would be flyable.) The sides would be U.S.A. (RED) and Russia (BLUE). However, I ran into a roadblock.
As my fellow mission creators know, the in-game Regiments are linked to a particular Army. So the problem is that there are no BLUE Russian Regiments. If I use another BLUE Axis Regiment, the AI chatter will be in that country's language. To me, this would totally ruin the atmosphere of the mission...for the Russian side anyway. Imagine flying a Russian flight and hearing German or Japanese AI chatter from your squad. Kind of silly. I don't suppose anyone knows of some kind of workaround for this problem? a) I know there's a new mod that lets you make, say, Allied forces blue instead of red and vice versa, but I haven't used it and don't know what it can and can't do.
b) maybe you could just transplant the Russian voices to a folder for the blue army, I'm not really sure how to do this though, plus each person flying on the blue side would have to take the time to set up a folder for it. In any case I should think it would be possible because the vanilla Il-2 doesn't have Italian voices or even an Italian missions folder, but on Mission4Today you can get a file pack that sets up Italian voices in an IT folder. I'm not sure what voice files the coop uses though, and I've never made or flown a coop mission, so I'm not the best person to respond, I'm just throwing out some ideas. ----------------- Farewell to freedom in the Adriatic and to the days of wild abandon. Yes, Sanka's Forgotten Nations mod adds a whole new nations to Il-2, and so you also get USA and GB to the blue side, just for cold war scenarios. |

I'm still trying to think of a way to spin this, but I really don't like the idea of required mods in an open coop mission. It can really minimize the number of players that can join.

I think it could be done without mods, but it would require a bit of tinkering.
The voice files as you probably know are here and are separated by folders. C:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Speech Like I said I have the Italian folder, which isn't in the stock version of Il-2, all you have to do is make an IT folder in campaigns and then move the IT speech files here: C:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Speech\IT Also something I've seen is the "White Sun, Blue Sky" campaign which uses an NN campaign folder though there's no NN speech folder. Also I think Il-2 only allows folders named certain things, so I don't think you could say make a folder like QQ, but I'm not entirely sure about that. So maybe what is possible is to create an IT folder and just transplant everything from the RU folder to it, and make an IT speech folder and put all the RU speech files in there. Then in the mission files make all the Russian planes Italian. I'm not sure this would work though but it seems like it would... Slightly complicated but no mods required. And obviously use Russian skins with red stars on them so you don't need markings. ----------------- Farewell to freedom in the Adriatic and to the days of wild abandon. Those kinds of changes would only be heard by me, not by any of the clients.
Also, as I explained in my original post, the Russian Army would need to be Blue. All of the Russian Regiments in IL-2 are Red. Thus the roadblock. Basically, what I need is Blue Russian Regiments (squads) with Russian-speaking pilots. Unfortunately, I believe those elements are hard-coded into the game and can't be changed without modding. Is it possible to add maps and planes into the game? If so, what are the reliable sites where you can get them? It would be fun to be able to make a korea campaign.

Aviar, the voices are easy, pilot voice replacement is supported in the standard game. The regiments on the other hand could present a problem.
dutchErik, we don't allow links to modding sites here, see http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...3110283/m/7441010176 If you google mods for IL2 you're likely to find the most popular mods site in the top few results. --------------------- Regards, Tully Joysticks & IL2/FB/PF | IL2Sticks Utility IL2JoyControl Utility | See How It Flies |

I was thinking that if I could somehow tie the scenario to East Germany, then I could use Blue German Regiments with default German voices. Something similar to the events in the Korean War, where Russian pilots were flying North Korean jets. It's a stretch, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
You see, I really want to use the Russian MiG-9 from 1946 as an adversary to the US and it's allies.
