How do you do this: instead of starting at the beginning of the runway I want to taxi from a hangar to the runway for take off.
It must be a simple solution and used the search option but couldn't find some info (probably I didn't search good enough).

You need to install an invisibe runway where you want your aircraft to start the mission. Set the aircraft to takeoff from the invisible runway. Note that the aircraft will jump when you cross the threshold onto the real runway so go SLOW.

See Castaways by Dubbo or my Straight Down Some More campaign (specifically missions SBD_E02, SBD_E03 and SBD_E04) for examples of this. Look at the missions in the FMB and you will see how it is done.

There are ways to get around the "threshold".

As an example, you could download my modded version of Murmansk to Morocco and check the first mission that takes place in 1941.

Mind you, I mean the version that is in the "specialized" section (v 3.0)

Alternatively, from the same section at M4T you could check for the LLTM 2009 missions, that has a couple of P-38s starting from a hangar without threshold worries Wink

Let me know what you think m8Smile

On the new maps there are certain airfields that you can start off in the hanger. I have done it, someone posted "how to" but its been awhile and I forgot how to do it. I remember that they were grass airfields, and I think that you set the first waypoint directly accross the field from the hanger, the next one in the hanger, but I'm not sure. Somebody will stop by and explain this to you.

That works fine for some airfields on some maps in 4.09, because those fields are "non regulated".

Most maps do not offer such fields. For those you need zeus-cat's or my solutions, see above

I found out how to do it!
It has to do with the invisible runway (nr.4) in FMB like Zeus-Cat said above.

My solution of taxiing to the runway from a hangar:

First select a visible runway and place it where you want to start taxiing. Then go to tab WAYPOINT --> SET TARGET and select the visible runway as your target. Replace this runway by the invisible one (nr. 4). Take in account that nr. 4 has another size and the beginning and end are only indicated by little white L-shaped angles. Now try it out if your plane starts exactly where you wanted it. If not move this runway back or forth.
Another thing: when you taxi a little bit too much to the left or right you fall of the invisible runway and Boom! explosion. So cover the area where you want to taxi ánd cover the original runway with these invisible runways and this problem is tackled.

I've used a similar solution to taxi from a parking area or revetment to the main runway in my Redstar/Whitestar 1948 project (about 20 mos worth). If you check the post I made on here a bit further down the page, you can see a corsair taxi out of a revetment on the first page.

I used the invisible runway, but also put them on the main runway to minimize the bump you get, two side by side to minimize running off the runway.

I did hte same thing for a P-80 starting in the parking area, letting it taxi to the edge of the runway whjle two others scramble on take-off.

NOTE: I discovered while doing this that if you taxi closer than the parallel taxi strip to the runway, any planes that are taking off will wait for you. So if you want them to take off before you, don't taxi closer than the edge of the original taxi way.

ALSO NOTE: While it's kinda neat to taxi from a hanger, it was almost never done. PLanes were almost always pulled from the hanger berfore starting due to safety reasons. Some scramble shelters may have been used, but I think that was mostly post war in the fifties. Alert planes in WW2 were parked in the open or in revetments.....usually.

In the afore mentioned cmpns above, there are interesting circumstances that call for taking off from a hangar, like hiding from the Japanes in Castaways (the best cmpn I have ever flown btw). Makes for some neat Tom Clancy stuff.
