Well, on the main forums I have mentioned that I am going to be working with Monguse to create a tribute/Documentary/Film, about the 325th FG (The Checkertail clan) who were based in Italy and originally North Africa.

Currently I am researching the type of airfields that they were based at so that I can get an authentic feel.

So maps I need are ones that would look like North Africa (they wre based and flew to their first overseas station, Tafaraoui, Algeria) although I'm still working out where the combat would have taken place after taking off from these bases though), and Italy.

Looking at the 4.09 Checkoslovakia map, I think especially with the new textures, this may suite Italy, but North Africa well there is the map with the desert and lots of hills.

Suggestions and advice much appreciated, cheers, MP.

Well, eeh, how about Italy online and MTO map?

Italy online in the region of Genua looks pretty cool as does the fake sicily. The new MTO map is also a very good map. I'm not quite sure why you would want other maps? I think the Slovakia map (although beautiful) doesn't look much like Italy, except for northern Italy?

The reason for my question in here is that you guys will probably have opened and closed the maps more times than anyone in the Ubi Forums, and with your skills I'm looking for personal views on which areas look the most like Italy and Africa in relation to the 325th link I posted.

Taking into consideration that a lot of the maps are very large, I'm hoping the more experienced Mission Builders can point out the maps and areas of those maps, that would probably hold an authenticity that others might not.

Italy Online will be a good starting point, thanks, and MTO I suppose, but as I said, are there areas which hold more 'candy' than others.

Yeah, I understand.
I've clicked open all maps multiple times. However, most of em have the famous "fluorecent green" look as in the original russian front maps. Then there are the pacific maps.

You might find some pretty nice scenery in the southern japan map (not sure how its called)'. I once used it to pass for Greece

But if you're looking for sandy terrain then I there's MTO, Desert Online, "Sands of Time". There are a couple of Pacific maps that have brown/earth looking textures as well, but I'm not too fond of them...

Really the Italy online map is a great map that combines quite a few features including open water, islands, coastal areas, and mountains. Its definitely worth using...its also a decent size. There is also the "MTO" map with 4.09beta...for desert. Again quite flexible.

Thanks for the pix and recommendations, I'll certainly go for the Italy maps, however, I still haven't installed the 4.09 Beta (although I have seen images from it), so I'll wait to see some MTO pictures.

I've worked on creating (using After Effects) a heat-haze effect, which should set the atmosphere nicely, but I'll wait until 4.09 Final comes out, because in the past I have had .trk's that will not playback because of the updates.

I'd suggest using .ntrk files instead (quicktracks), they playback no matter what patch you recorded them in. They're also accurate in playback. .trk's are discouraged by 1C.

Hey MP, I kinda like the Sardinia map on the SW corner of the Italy online map.Ive been flying out of that in a SEOW with the Dogz and I really like the airfields there and some in Italy. I would try out different ones to see if any suit you.

Thanks for all your replies gents, my next question will be for volunteers to make a couple of missions (maybe 4 actually), but they have to look authentic.

One involves the strafing of Sea Planes behind a Harbour wall, then getting bounced by Me-109's !

Workingon unit details at the moment for the Luftwaffe...man this is going to take ages!

This film is going to have a lot of action, but be laid out more Documentary style, which is something I haven't tried before, but that's a challenge, and that's why I like the fact we have a great community to ask questions like I have here.
