I've been trying to create a low level bombing run over Berlin at night, kind of like the massive RAF raids on Hamburg and Dresden. I've been using B-24 liberators due to the unfortunate lack of an Avro Lanc (new AAA aircraft mod?), but there is one problem that is still facing me.

The whole idea is that I can't see the enemy bombers so i have to rely on searchlights and, if I want to be clever, my landing light. But every time the enemy formation of bombers arrives I am blinded by this haze of green red and white lights from the B-24s. Is there any sort of way to make them de-activate their lights for this mission only?

And if necessary please explain how to do those fancy 'game element: 1/2/3' stuff?

Sorry I forgot to mention. I am, to an extent, a complete and utter NOOB.

I'm not sure I follow you. You mention 'searchlights' and being 'blinded' and 'green, red and white lights'.

Well, the searchlights are indeed very bright and can somewhat blind you if they lock onto your plane. However, you say you are "...blinded by this haze of green red and white lights from the B-24s."

Well, those sound like navigation lights and they are not nearly enough to blind anyone. So, can you clarify just what is 'blinding' you?

If you are simply trying to say that you would like the AI to turn their nav lights off, it is not possible in 4.08m. However, in the new official patch (4.09m), this problem has been fixed.

In 4.09m, the AI only use their nav lights on takeoff and landing.

Also, I have no clue what you mean by "... fancy 'game element: 1/2/3' stuff..."

Aviar is right... if you're referring to the navigation lights then upgrading to 4.09m will solve your problems as the AI has been upgraded to use nav lights only when appropriate instead of anytime its dark.

Find my missions at Flying Legends and Mission4Today.com.

That is good news. I must have missed it in the readme pdf of Team Daidalos.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to get 4.09 when it's out of beta. The 4,09 I downloaded rendered Il-2 unplayable...all 3 times :-(

Sorry If I confused you, yeah I meant the nav lights. (don't take that much of what I say literally)

Well, I don't know what you downloaded, but the official 4.09 patch has been out for a couple of weeks now. The new version is named 4.09m....the same one I mentioned in my last post.

In case you missed the official 4.09m patch announcement:

Hmmmmmmm... I think I'll give it a shot...

Do you have to pay to be signed on to M4T?

Then I'll give it a rip. If it KOs my Il-2 again, I won't blame ya.

Wow. I never realised how closely related ubi.com, this website, M4T and AAA were till I registerd here. I guess I'll be making a AAA account pretty soon, I'll do it when I need to though.

Okay, so I have two download link that have come up...
Game patch EN.zip 22.69KB
Patch torrent pack.zip 131.36KB
Which one should I download?

Thanks for helping me while I'm in my Noob stage :-)

Night encounters are now many times harder.

The AI nav lights at night were unrealistic. But no more so than the lack of exhaust flare.

These airplanes, even with exhaust dampeners, were not invisible at night. Players seem to overlook this important point. The exhausts generated a glow and we completely lack this feature in the sim without mods. The nav lights offset this (by accident, I'm sure, not by design) because a visual cue to an aircraft's position at night was present.

With the sim as it stands now, without a mod for exhaust flare, we have lost at least as much realism as we have gained

True...true.

There's a couple of things that I've noticed that the designers missed here and there, primarily in ground warfare (especially the ingenious way the truck drivers handle something in their way) but I'm sure that most of this was cut out to save more room for the aerial aspect of the game.

Okay, you know he's a noob when he asks this. How does I put the 4.09 patch on Il-2 program?
