- There have been a number of posts over the years concerning the bug that exists with setting Forest=3 in your Conf file.
- I re-visit this in the hope that maybe a future patch…4.91…5.0 may finally end the problem. - It helps sometimes to add Object165 (2D trees) to an airfield boundary, especially for a busy DF Home Base, as it forces chaps to take-off and land in a fixed direction, especially on a large grass strip as exists on the wonderful Slovakia Online map. By adding gaps through the trees at the thresholds, a more or less fixed RW direction is forced. - It is possible to use other objects…but many missions over the years have used 165 and they are used today with 4.09. - However……if you are using “Forest=3”, not only will you not be able to use this object in FMB, but if you fly someone’s mission, maybe that you have downloaded, you will find that if you do not land through the now invisible gaps through the trees at the threshold, you will turn into heat and light in an instant without your eyes even watering! No indication of why you met your end will be apparent. A sad state of affairs. - In the photographs below, I have tried to show the results of this bug to the unwary. - They are all taken from the same mission on the Slovakia Online map with a clean version of 4.09. - The only difference is that in the first picture, I have Forest=2 set in Conf File, and in the other two, Forest=3. Short finals through the gap in the trees:- Short finals with no trees visible and a little left of picture1:- The end result with Forest=3!! (no warning and an untimely end!) Of course many are aware of this problem….but would it not be possible to finally put it to bed and fix it? I wish I had the skills that the chaps who put 4.09 on air for us have…but alas I can only beg for their expertise in fixing this for us all! Nicholaiovitch |

Good post. I've had many people die in my coops due to this. If I have time, I usually explain it to them after the mission.
I already reported this situation a few days ago in one of the 4.09m bug threads. Maybe Team Daidalos can do something about it. *On a side note, I personally think the trees look silly, if not downright ugly in Forest=3 anyway. The way they 'expand' and 'contract' as you move closer to them. They certainly don't look anything like real trees to me. I don't see the fascination with this setting in the first place.
