I would like to experiment with modifications to the .mis file. Can anyone out there tell me how to get started? Do I need a special utility program? Thanks!

Thanks, V! I was uncertain about using Notepad after I saved a test file and it converted to a Wordpad file. I could not switch it back to a .mis file. Thanks to you I have learned that the Wordpad format does not affect .mis file performance.

I wanted to lower the cloud height to 300 meters. Even though I changed the cloud height line in the .mis file, the simulator would not comply. The cloud bases went back to the minimum 500 meter height when I loaded the mission. When I went back to the .mis file, the cloud height line had automatically changed back to 500 meters. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

Some things are hard coded and cannot be changed.

Hum, strange one!

Setting cloud height at 300m works fine for me and doesnt get over written, an example i just checked -

[MAIN]
MAP Crimea/load.ini
TIME 11.0
CloudType 1
CloudHeight 300.0
army 1
playerNum 0

Upon entering the game and taking off the cloud was at around 320m, when i exited and opene dup the mission again it still showed 300m.

When i opened the mission up in full mission builder it showed under conditions "500m" as that's the lowest it can "show". However when i played it the cloud remained at approx 300m.
Perhaps it something to do with having detailed clouds turned on?

Hope that's helpfull.

Maybe it resets it when you open up the mission in FMB? (Sort of like how ship speeds will get bumped down to their highest shown speed and Neutral Army units will get swapped to the Red Army)

That's quite possible.
I think it may also depend on the mission type, i only really make online co-ops and they don;t reset. When i made a single payer map it did reset. Im guessing you are onto something there.

Many thanks to all who contributed. Still no success. You were right about using FMB. I'm constructing a historical campaign as a memorial for the 20th Fighter Group, my father's unit, so I've been using FMB a lot.

When I loaded the mission using FMB, the .mis file cloud height changed to 500 meters automatically. When I loaded the same mission using Single Missions, the cloud height in the .mis file did not change, but the actual cloud height in the mission still would not go below 500 meters.

I was also trying to create multiple cloud layers, but that didn't work either. Thanks again to all who tried to help!

Don't use "save as..." - use "save". "save As..." will add a .txt extension to the filename by default - you would end up with something like mission.mis.txt instead of mission.mis So easyly corrected. use Save Smile
You can only create one cloud level - there is only one. the FMB will try to correct any mission it loads. Try playing/testing through Multiplayer - create server - save the mission under net/dogfight/#/ or net/coop/#/ depending on your needs.
