How can I make letters that float in the air to tell some one to go a certain direction? I.E. in a race where the last lap you take a different path. Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, I suppose you could use the 'Light type 1,2,3,4' from the Stationary Objects category.

You see, these lights can actually be placed at specific heights off the ground, unlike most objects.

Even a simple directional arrow [----->] should be pretty easy to make. I've done it myself in the past.

Once someone here posted a mission where he had hundreds of floating lights set up in the shape of a battleship. It really looked like a battleship, must have taken him many many hours to make it.

Greybeast has made some fantastic air racing courses. Here's an early one...

Alas they seem to have disappered from the Internet. Sad

Here's some of GreyBeast's work.
I think ?
There are 15 different racing maps.
I didn't see the desert map you posted pictures of though Beebop. Frown

http://www.umbhau.de/Jan/IL-2FB1946/index.htm

Click on the pictures and you will be taken to another page with the downloads in the lower right corner for the page.
There are several screenshots of the maps on that page too.

I found another of his maps at Sim Air racing too.

I didn't go through all 135 downloads.
There may be more than two.
One of them was a duplicate of one at the site I linked above.

Greybeast must have lots of time on his hands, and persistance to boot. I'm impressed!
